I'm thinking on doing a turbo on my 99 V6 ATX. I came across this on ebay, would this be something along the line I would want for fabricating a setup. I guess I mean is it not enough, just right, or too much?

Depends on how much hp you want in the end, how fast you want full boost, etc.... T3's are kinda small and past the teens (psi) are pretty much just blowing hot air, especially for the size of the 2.5L. Now, if you have the Zetec, that would probably be a pretty good match. Also, do you plan on upgrading internals, head work, extrude honing.... You've also got to realize that any power adder on a ATX will probably need an upgrade of your transaxle. But, I don't really know of any other turbo ATX, so you'll definitely be singular!! Good luck, and I hope you actually end up doing it, just plan on spending ALOT to do it right.

yeah if youre going for big power, youll need a stronger trans. im not sure what the atx can handle, but i know its not every much. if you want to upgrade you transaxle, levelten is the only place i know of that makes upgrades for the cd4e.

Not Enough. That ebay add doesn't list the compressor size. I tried looking it up on the Holset website and that model isn't even listed.

If it is a T3, that is going to be to small for the 2.5L. You would have to get a map but it would probably be over and done with in the 4K range. Your best bet is to look at the T28 size. You'll want to get something with a fairly quick spool to make it more livable with the atx. Speaking of which the CD4E is rated to 300 ft lbs. A cooler will be a must and you might as well go with a synthetic fluid.

Be prepared though as it will be a mostly custom job. The relocation of the a/c accumulator is going to be required. You could always try using oval pipes to help with the space between the trans and the subframe. It can be done but it's a matter of how much your willing to spend, how much you can do yourself and how much downtime you can live with.

I wish you luck. Do your research, it will help a LOT in the long run.

How handy areyou in fabbing up parts??

A Twin scroll turbo (like the one shown), would benefit from a turbo manifold designed for a twinscroll turbo. Though the twinscroll is nice creating quicker spool and better top end, a single scroll turbine would be an easier fab.

Also, that's not a turbo you'll want.

The truth is, you can go with any turbo, with any flange, built for any car when you are fabbing up your own stuff.

Select size fo turbo based on engine size, and power need (basically, quicker spool, vs top end beast)...

It doesn't sound like you've got much of a background in turbocharging vehicles... remember it takes alot more than just a turbo and some pipiung to make a car fast and function properly.

This would be my first turbo.

I'm planning on doing what ever I need to do. I have thought about engine swaps but then that wouldn't be as pretty when you pop the hood. To see all that piping running. I'm planning on adding oil and transmission cooler, uim, lim, injectors, chip, hell I'll even throw NOS into it along with a 6 speed f-1 style shifting trany. :goofy:

Basically I'm trying to get a list together for mods to make.

The reason I was asking about that turbo was to get an idea of what type I should get.

and that piping nightmare from trying to fab up a system on your atx is just as ugly.:disgust:

and its called "nitrous"

I'm not gonna lie... I wouldn't recommend the Cougar, especially the V6 mated to an ATX, to be the first car you custom turbocharge.

For the cost vs. gains...and the complexity, it's not really a learning experience either. Honestly you probably "learn" how not to do things.

Just my opinion of course...
