Well first off, hello to this board.
I am a member off turbotbirds for 83-88 ford turbo coupes.
So when I had a problem with the wifes 99 cougar i looked for a board. So here I am.
Here it goes..
The cougar is a 99 4 banger that cant get out of it's own way- totally stock.
She drove to work and was losing power till it stalled. Fortunatly, she was a mile form home and it fired back up so i followed her home. Now it is a no start.
After ruling out lack of gas and spark, I put the tester on it and got a P1383 code. So I pulled back the timing belt cover only to see the belt is still intact but is shredded wheat. I feel the belt jumped a few teeth. Do you guys agree?
So is there a how to section on this board for replacing the belt and retiming the car? Is the 4 cyl a high interference engine? If I screw up the timing will I kill the engine? Any help or pointing in the right direction is appreciated.
