Who makes racing seat brackets for our car? If no one does, what custom/universal brackets are you using? Are these brackets brand specific? Do some make you sit uncomfortably high up? I don't know what brand seat I'd be getting, but if the company makes a bracket for our car, it will weigh in to the decision.

How much are we talking? I'm a big boi, I don't have a ton of room in the Cougar as it is.

I'm 6'1", 170 lb, so yeah, how much raising are we talking about?
you will brush your head on the liner.

If he's gonna do it at 6'1" then I'm gonna be FAQ'd at 6'3. Are you sure about that? I have a good three or four inches of space, it seems ridiculous it will add that much space.

I'd be really screwed at 6'7"!!! :banghead: Any way around the seat going up?

Open the moonroof. ;) On a side note, I know someone who is 7" tall and drives a PT Cruiser. Wanna talk about
Seriously though, if anyone has any answers, please chime in.

What about other brands? And I'm pretty sure Nemesis is 6'1", so we've got to be missing something. I know the Cougar isn't exactly the target for the racing seat market, but there has gotta be a way a guy over 6' can put one in without having to open the sunroof

Depending on how quick the weather gets nice I may end up the guinea pig for this, as I have Corbeau seats and brackets waiting for me right now.
i dont know how tall Jaged is but i know his head was brushing Matts(ND4SPD) liner when he was sitting in it.

Jason's a bit taller 'en I am, if I remember correctly.
iirc, he said that he had no headroom at all when he was sitting in it...
dunno... i coulda sworn he was like 6 2 or something...
anyway, if you contact E1, he has a friend who can make a custom adaptor that can fit on a existing stock bracket...

Thanks for the heads up man. I'll try the ones I have first since I don't think I can return them. We'll see what happens.

Just a FYI, Nopi makes a Cougar specific adapter for their seats and they also fit all Sparcos. I know those seats are pricey, but I plan on using this solution when I start on my interior.

MOMO and dyed4ordblue, are both of those with sliders or are the fixed? Also, are the NOPI ones for anything other than Sparco?

I think Jason is about 6'3" and Nemisis is only like 5'10" i think... tall for a mexicazain. But not everyone sits the same. Im about 6'3" but have realatively short legs for my hight and long torso. I brush my head as is in stock power seats. Any brackets that raised a seat wouldnt be an option for me.
one that E1 can get actually works with the stock bracket (so with stock sliders as well). He is going to update me on this hopefully soon... my momo street racer is sitting in the garage right now.

I was actually thinking about doing that. Like I said, I'm 6'7", and any higher than stock couldn't work. I'm planning on eliminating the back seats, so there will really be no reason to need to move the seat forward (I don't let anyone else drive my car!)... hmmm...interesting idea!

when i put my seats in i just got a piece of steel plate and have it welded to the stock brakets, i bolted the seat to the plate with really strong nuts and bolts and then just touched the nuts and bolts with the welder to fuse them together a little. i was gonna go with lock-tite but this seem like it would be stronger. hopefully ill never have to take the seats off the brackets.

I bought an aluminum bracket 2" wide x 3' long x 3cm thick.
I cut it to length and bolted it to the floor. Then bolted my aftermarket seats to the aluminum. Its easy to bend to it contours with the floor easily. Plenty strong enough to hold up in a crash, and weighs about 25lbs less than the oem seat bracket.

Yeah, I can't really recommend the Corbeau brackets. I can fit in the car, but its not, how do I wanna say . . . comfortable? I dunno. I think I'm gonna have to go a different route though.

Hey GMK when you say brackets are they just strips of aluminum that size? I haven't looked at our brackets yet, but am interested in swapping out my seats.

do you have any pics of your brackets kenny? im curious to see how your solution works.
Eternal One is finally getting some brackets...
I think he will let us know whats up with them.
fyi, these are the brakets which you can directly attach to your existing base...
so you can still use stock slider, power seats, etc etc...

Will Sparcos sit in the stock base???
Will Sparcos sit in the stock base???
from what E1 said, with the bracket adaptor hes getting, Sparco should fit on the stock base.

Well, here's an update . . . I had the Corbeau brackets cut down 1 1/16" in the front and rear, and now they are pretty much perfect for me. I think they are slightly higher then where I was before, but WORLDS better than they were stock.

Credit wh0re. Seriously though, I must give a big shout-out to Ron there for making the process go a few million times faster. Having seen and helped on so much of it, I think with the right tools he and I could strip a Cougar bare in relatively short order.
