Once the car gets back from the body shop I'll be flushing everything. Rad., Oil, Tranny etc. Just getting everybody's opinion on what they think is the best. I was told use nothing but royal purple!

It's a cougar. Not a multi-million Italian supercar. Use whatever you can find.

RP is for HIGH end, "I've got thousands invested and a LOT to lose" type cars. Stick with OEM or close-to.

PR is a great oil and tranny fluid. OEM coolant...perhaps with some Purple Ice mixed in.

it doesn't hurt to use the better stuff if you want to keep your car in shape.
RP, Mobil 1, RedLine...my baby has never had dino juice in it since I've owned it.

i would suggest you use Amsoil and filter...
best synthetic motor oil bar none.
Royal Purple dont even come close.

(recommended oil change, 20,000 miles)

well I think what he is asking is "what to use to flush the oil, rad., and tranny"

I have done my oil and radiator, and my personal favorite thing for the oil is to buy the 1 quart bottles of "motor flush" by Gunk. The directions say to add the bottle to your orginal oil before you empty it, but I read on the supra forums (and I've been doing it myself for about 2 years now) is to drain your original oil, then put your drain plug back in, then add 5 quarts of the motor flush itself. Run the car 3 times in 3 minute increments, waiting about 2 minutes in between each one. Then drain the motor flush, you'll see some nasty crap. Then just add your new oil and it's good to go.

And for your tranny RP is probably your best bet.

IMHO all that high tech high priced stuff is just a waste of money. people that buy into it have just fallen for good marketing. the "normal" stuff is more than adequate. it is all made to certain standards and the auto manf dont specify the fancy stuff. if it would help keep them out of trouble, wouldnt they?

my little kitty cougar with nearly 185,000 miles on her is living proof.

Amsoil is definately NOT a waste of money.

you spend 10 dollars a quart yes... however, this oil will last 20,000 miles or one year with out changing...(which in the long run saves you money). and they are guaranteed to provide superior protection... Not hype, just facts. The fact that Amsoil does NOT market its oil extensively speaks for itself.

A NECO member from NorCal NECO tested his oil vs. Amsoil at specific intervals. He was so convinced Amsoil was great from having it independently tested that he decided to become an Amsoil dealer later on.
