View Full Version : Question for people in Houston.
How much is your average electric and water bill?
Coming out next week to look at houses, but also need to get an idea about average electric and water costs, so we can better figure out what the cost of living would be vs. salary.

I have Cousin's in Houston & they said that they pay $280-350 a month on there Bill. But they leave the A/C on 24/7 so that might be the problem there.

I don't keep my house that cold, I have a programmable thermostat and during the summer I have it set around 84 when I'm not home and 77 when I am.

I think it may be the humidity or something, either way it's hard to really answer this as it depends on how often you keep it running and how efficient your AC and house is.
A 15 year old AC unit versus a relatively new one that runs constantly will vary a lot in electrical use, not to mention insulation, roof ridge vents, double paned windows, effective seals, and oddly enough which direction the majority of the windows in your house face.
But yeah, it's prolly not gonna be cheap, when I lived in Houston Reliant energy let you "average" your electrical bills out so your bills were sorta even, but I doubt I actually saved money for it, but it made budgeting things out alot easier.
