I am sorry to say, but I am pretty new to this car modding stuff. I have added a short ram intake and a custom single exhaust. I want to get the most power out of my car. I was reading through some of the threads and they are just greek to me. I like the idea of the svt upgrade and the 3.0L engine swap. How can I get the most bang for my buck? Any mod ideas to make it faster and not have to spend a lot of money would be greatly appreciated.

Fast. Cheap. Strong.
Pick two :)
The next logical steps would be headers, SVT upper intake manifold and throttle body (and lower intake manifold if your car was build before 5/99) and maybe a cold air intake extension.
Nitrous is pretty good bang for the buck too.

Best bang for buck's the usual Intake/Exhaust, then either the svt manifolds or headers. It take's money to go fast. If you want to go the nitrous route make sure you research it first.

I feel the best bang for the buck mod you can do on the cougar is Headers hands down. (not including nitrous)
The SVT manifolds are a good mod, however they also need the SVT throttle body and assosiated parts to really be beneficial. It can all add up, however this is a mod you can do in your driveway, where as headers are a real PTA to install.

Save your money for a year, and find a good shop in the meantime. When you have enough saved up, do a 3.0L swap. There is no replacement for displacement! Lol, any of the above advice from everyone on this thread is good, just remember to have fun above all. Don't be afraid to go out on a limb and just try stuff, the worst that can happen is you learn something from the expierience. Also, make some friends who are more expierienced, from my perspective there is nothing more satisfying than passing on what I've learned about cars to someone else. That is what makes our hobby great, and what keeps it going.

Well, I am going to pay off my car very soon and would like to start modding it more heavily. I was reading about the 3.0L swap and I think I could get a hold of one from friends. I just am not real good with this car stuff, I feel like I am going to try something and blow my engine doing it. BTW, is there anyone in this forum that lives in upstate NY? Maybe if I could get some friends in the area it would be easier. It is harder to go look at my car and try to picture what is being talked about here than it would be with people standing next to my car explaining it.
