I picked up a White 99 V6 ATX with 120k miles on it from a local member. He had hyrdolocked the engine in a flood a few months back.
I figured this would be an excellent chance to check what exactly happens to an engine when it is hydrolocked, so I bought the cougar and he kindly delivered it to me.
I spent a good solid afternoon diassembling the intake manifolds, lim, & sparkplugs and sucked all the water out with a shopvac and some small 2cm vaccumlines which i fished through the sparkplug holes into each cyl. I turned the crankpully to ensure the engine wasnt locked.
I bought a used starter on ebay off a 99 contour and replaced the stripped starter in this cougar. (holy jesus taking the starter out is a PTA) :disgust: (only took me 2 freaking days)
I replaced the battery and reassembled everything and fired the car. The starter took a few mins to fire, but the car started.
The engine has a ticking sound (likely a damaged bearing) but it runs well otherwise. Once I get the car to its new home with a garage I will replace the bearing.
Woot! +1 for the cougar!

well it'll move under its own power, but at the expense of the bearings. So i'll take it with me to Raleigh when i move and drop a 3.0 or my silver cougars 2.5 into it.
I'll replace the bearing once the engine is out and keep it as a spare just in case.
But the plan for the white cougar... All my audio equipment will go into it, and my silver cougar will once again get its lightweight status and a 3.0.

I'd say it was worth it. It'll definilty be worth it once i get a new motor in it.
I'll be living in Raleigh soon, i'll definifitly be wanting to complete some motor swaps when i get there. I wish I where closer to you Eric.

I don't understand why people keep saying the starter is hard, I replaced mine in 45 minutes start to finish. Now granted getting through all the hoses and out of the car was like making it give birth, but I worked it out with a little muscle.
Oh, and by the way welcome to hell. Owning two cougars is a PITA.

yeah so I'm bringing up a dead post but hell, I'm glad you got it up and running man! I would have fixed it but after replacing all the sensors and then it getting flooded out and in between jobs it was a smart move for me to buy a new car. Between the insurance money and everything else I came out in a good way on the car. I'm glad to hear it is runnign again. Oh yeah and the speakers were brand new too but again I'm glad that it is running again!

It will start and move under its own power. However there is likely a crushed bearing. I have a spare motor i am dropping in then i'll repair the white cougars motor.
The damage is not nearly as bad as it could have been. Which is a good thing.
