18 year old male and just bought a 00 Cougar two weeks ago. Used to drive a 98 ford escort. Ive always wanted a fast car that i could modify. Bought it for $4,500 w/ 116k miles. Ive got plently of money left over but i dont know what to do. I already put an AEM Short Ram Intake under the hood, and just received my short shifter in the mail. I also bought a "performance computer chip" which im starting to think i dont want/need. Its called PROBOOST if that means anything, and i wanna know whether i should try it out or not. Also I would like some input on what to put into this car. Im going for performance, so any tips will be appreciated. Ill get pictures up shortly and here is the link for this computer chip i was talking about.
BTW - a list of some things that came with the car
35% tint on all windows
$400+ JVC head unit
aftermarket interior speakers
left rear quarterpanel dent
half of grille missing
right passenger window moves slowly
right passenger door lock clicks several time after pressing lock or unluck just once
things I have done
AEM short ram intake
full white neon streetglow kit
two 12" MA Audio Subwoofers w/ 460w Dual AMP(for subs), and 120w SPL AMP(for interior speakers)

Welcome aboard
Some how i doubt the 20 dollar chip will help. Now that you got a short ram id look into getting a Cold Air extention for it, heat soak is a *****. Just look around theres pleanty of info on here. Search is your friend :)

GMK CAI.... often refered to as a cold air intake but its really just an extention to your short ram.

It moves your filter outside the engine bay so it doesnt soak up all the heat and lessen your power.

I would make an offer except I dont know a good price on one. Is $75 a good price for a GMK CAI... I just spent a good amount on my short ram it seems weird to be spending another $75 to add to it. When i said i have plenty of money left over I wasnt talking thousands lol ;)

welcome to neco! I'm fairly new myself. For performance, it's looking to me like SVT contour parts are a safe way to go. The cams and upper intake manifold are a good start, I've read. Also, the stock flywheel is something like 22lbs, so a 7-8lb Fidanza flywheel will free up some decent power for you. Good luck with the cougar, and don't forget to post some pics!

oh yea, and I wouldn't put that chip on my car.. looks kinda fishy, like one of those resistor things or something.

$75 is half the normal price for an outstanding piece of equipment.

Welcome! GMK sells his CAI for around $180 for the full kit. An extension would be cheaper.

So how much money do you have left over? The best bang for your buck are headers. They give you the most gains when it comes to bolt ons. But they cost about $660.

Welcome to the board, stay away from ebay items that claim to gain you HP for cheap. They are bogus!
