This date was looking like the clear winner based on the poll, and since we won't have to rent the track it makes the event much cheaper. We'll continue to discuss drag/autox options along with all the other activites/events we may want to have this year but the date is now finalized for those that need to ask for vacation. Yes there were alot of other date/location options but this year we needed to pull the trigger and put something in stone.
Haven't been to Cougarfest before? Check out the archive (http://www.cougarfest.com/photos/)
I know everyone else is already pumped.

Since we have no track to rent we have $5280 less in expenses this year. If we get raffles going for pop/food/etc we could have a pretty affordable event.

In my dreams, final rollout will be by mid-April or early May. There's not a doubt in my mind the car WILL be finished in time for Fest. I just want it done NOW.

So about how much are we looking to spend? How many nights do you guys usually stay? Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights? I need to plan gas expenses for about 1400 miles (there and back), room, food, and a tuned dyno. Maybe I can get my dyno ran around here once I get my 3.0l up and running and wont need to waste the $300 for two hours of runs.
Could someone please make an expense list so that me and possibly other new comers can figure something out.
Don't feel bad Goldie....I can't go either.

Sweet, I may try to leave a chunk of my tax returns saved just to get me a good starting point for CF funding. Gas is going to be my largest expense, Google Maps says exactly 1,788 miles one way. Now I just need to figure out if I'm going NorCal style (straight thru, no stops) or SoCal style (take my time, stopping at various places for the night). I would prefer straight thru, so long as I get drivers to help me.
By the way, splitting of hotel rooms is allowed, right? So splitting a room between 3 people for 3 nights would make it $75 total per person, for example. I remember thats how we did it for WCP2 in Vegas in 2004, split a room 3 ways and made it cheaper for everyone.

01-31-2006, 11:04 AM
Yeah thats what you gotta do, find a roomate, or roomates. That definitely cuts the cost of the hotel room down. Just don't get a room on the 3rd floor

I put in for a week off around this, as I plan on driving straight thru, NorCal style. I just need to get an extra driver or two and I'm covered on that.
I'm probably gonna look into a second parttime job as a Cougarfest fund so that I know I'll have enough $$$ to go.

lol.. yeah its true... our room was probably the craziest.
We had half a cougar in there... with all gmk's weight reduction hijinx.
5 people sleeping, ov3n had taken over all available power in the room with computer stuff, heh, so I think i had access to 1 outlet.
the fridge and microwave were disconnected :(
THEN I barely slept there anyway, because didn't you, I, and the other guy stay up after kenny went to bed? cause we were all installing the intakes until like 7am? heheh

Little off topic trivia.... UNIAC (one of the 1st computers) was built for the census bureau because it was predicted it would take longer than 10 years to add up the next census.

Just in case anyone think you guys are serious, the Census Bureau has work throughout every decade. First, in the Demographics area, we run just about every major gov't sponsored household survey (even ones that are sponsored by other agencies usually contract with the Census Bureau) and things like the Consumer Price Index are calculated based on the results of surveys run by the Census Bureau.
The Economic area does an economic census every 5 years, plus they run various gov't sponsored surveys related to business. (I haven't worked in the econ area so I'm not as familiar with their work.)
Finally, in the Decennial area, where I work, we are currenly planning for the 2010 Census by testing field operations in places around the country - you don't just do a census without testing procedures and all a couple times to make sure they work. (When you employ 500,000 enumerators working out of over 500 offices, the procedures have to be simple and well-thought-out, or you'll have a disaster that wastes a HELL of a lot of money.) The Decennial area also runs the American Communities Survey, which will replace the long form in the 2010 Census in favor of more-frequently updated statistics.
So, uh, yeah, we're busy all the time. :) There is a running joke about how we all lose our jobs and the 3 buildings we occupy go into mothballs once the census is finished, but it's just not true - there are several thousand people at headquarters alone and there's more than enough work for all of us all the time. :)
