I have a tucan industries 2 1/16 voltmeter gauge and I need to know how to hook it up. rather on the back of it there are three conections. + - and S. I just simply need to know what the S is.

S = source, I believe.

It's simply the voltage that you want to monitor. So, hook up a positive wire to the "S."

on my voltmeter gauge it had 3 wires. one was a positive, one was a ground, and the last one actually went to the headlights so it would dim the gauges when the headlights were on. I don't know if thats any use to you, but I thought I'd put it out there. Have you tried hooking it up with just the positive and the ground?

i would assume it is a sensing wire aswell...if that is the case the you would probably want to tap in the alt wire going to the battery

I tapped the s wire into the headlight wire. so it would turn on with the headlights. but I have a SPW gauges.

Thnaks all, I just hooked it up wihtout the S wire. it works fine. I hooked both positive wires to the ignition wire, which on my cougar was green with an orange stripe. and both black wires directly to a ground and it works great! Air/fuel ratio gauge is another story though, I have the apropriate signal but nothing out of the gauge. working ont hat wed evening with smitty!

With most electric guages, there's a ground (-), a power (+), and a sense line that detects fluxuations in the source. But, if it works, don't screw with it.

Thanks MC-NECO for the info and everyone else for the help. The s goes to the headlight dimmer.
