I was wondering if you could reuse the Speedo Gear and Diff bearings from the stock differential and press them back onto a Torsen???
I mean, if they have no damage and look to be in great shape... couldn't it be possible to just swap those parts???

I plan on getting a new set of bearings and the gear, but I was very curious about this...

Anybody?? Keep in mind that they are in Good Condition...

I just tore apart a 2001 MTX tranny with worn away spider gears, but there is no metal in the bearings, and the speedo gear is perfect...

thanks

It will be more trouble then it's worth... the bearings are pressed on with a lot of pressure and I would think that you would damage the bearings and the speedo gear while you are pounding away ;)

my old ones were broken when removed, so i had to use new ones

Actually, I wouldn't have to pound on them at all...cause I have a 12 ton shop press being delivered to my home by the end of the week!!!

I also picked up a bearing/ gear separator for the press, so I will try at it, and if they are still in great condition, I may press them back on to the Torsen when I get it.

We'll see what happens....

Put new ones on they are what? $25 each? and if something happens you have to do it all over again.

Yes, I do realize that they are very inexpensive, but that wasn't the point.

I asked this same question to 2 guys at work who do some serious gear swaps and whatnot on their trannys/diffs, and they said it was very easy with a press, and could be done. they also said it wouldn't hurt to get new ones either, but it was still possible to use the used ones.

Just wanted to see if anybody has even thought of doing that, instead of buying new ones. Just seems like a waste of a part if its still good.

Well it isn't really a waste when you are spending aroud $600 already, I guess you might want to reuse the trand fluid too? You pay for what you get, don't cut corners when it comes to performance. This idea should have never even crossed your mind.

Do you rinse out your oil filter or just change it when you change your oil? I guess I could run my oil through a paint filter to get the contaminates out too and reuse it.

Why is it most people on here have to be so Freakin' sarcastic and post added BS...it was a HYPOTHETICAL QUESTION...I was getting all new bearings and the speedo gear no matter what I posted in this thread.
