Came out of my apartment this morning & saw glass everywhere. The coug driverside window was busted out & they stole my Alpine headunit & all of my CD's. :( I was on hold w/ the cops for 45 minutes before I was finally able to file a report. Of course it's not like they're going to do anything about it. I'm taking it to the Ford dealer in the morning to get an estimate, hopefully it will be over $1,000 since that is my deductible. I think it will be though, since I have to get part of the console replaced, the shifter, driverside window, & the driver's door repainted because the scratched it up. Also the headunit was $800 new, so that's a good chunk of money. I'm not sure how insurance will pay for that though.
This just sucks, it's not like I live in a bad neighborhood. I live in a really nice apartment complex. This just makes me hate people more than ever!

Yeah, mine is $1,000 b/c I'm still under my parents & we have waaaay too many cars. So to keep the insurance down, my dad raised it to $1,000.

Hey Melissa, are you sure your comprehensive deductible is that high? Keep in mind, you have both a collision AND a comprehensive deductible. THe collision may be $1000, but the comprehensive is almost always a lot lower, like maybe $100ish.
Either way, I hope you get it taken care of ok.

Wow....that sucks Mel, I hope it all works out for you. I hate the fact that people do things like that. We work hard to buy nice things for our cars and some jerk takes it from you.
I thought that when I moved into a nice area I wouldn't have to worry about things like that....but it sounds like you are in a good area too and it still happened.
lol... Mel, i know you sorority girls like to take pics, but did you have to wear one while taking these pics? :)

That sucks :-(
Did they put that scratch on the door?
Why take it back to Ford? If you've got to pay out they'll be higher.
Get the window fixed at a glass shop and pickup a new console from a junkyard or something to keep the costs down.
The headunit replacement is going to depend on your ins. Some auto policies will cover it if it's in the "factory location" sometimes it's covered under a homeowners policy...why I have no idea. My ins guy gets a rash when we talk about the Cougar. My Panasonic HU has the brain box under the seat...but the rest is in dash. He still hasen't been able to tell me how the coverage is gonna work

Yeah they put several scratches on the door.
Luckily my insurance is paying for the damages & the headunit. I have to pay the $1,000 deductible. But I'm claiming the $2,200 that I had in CD's under homeowners & if they pay out then it won't be too bad....minus the loss of CD's. Then I'm using whatever is left to get an alarm, PRONTO!

You take the bottom half of spark plug(which is a ***** in itself to break) and you can throw it at a window. Instead of the usual shattering or hole, the window will web into little pieces and pretty much just fall with a tap.
sounds like someone's a pro

Something to think about......A few years back, someone broke into my (Unnamed make and model).....The cop that took the report was a friend of mine from High School....He told me that most auto burglaries(sp?) are committed by someone that knows you and what you have in the car. The exception to this is when there are other cars in the same lot that have been broken into......Come to find out, my Former Roommate was the culprit. I couldn't get the cops to do anything about it because I didn't have the serial number on file at my home or with the manufacturer.

That really sucks! I had the same thing happen to me a couple of years ago. Unfortunately having an Alarm didn't help in my case either.
Hope everything works out for you. ;)

If you fold up a sweatshirt into a pillow-like ball and put it against the glass, then punch it, it'll do the same thing.

that sounds like a whole lot of effort..especailly if your gonna hit more then one car...you arm would be tired and you hand getting sore form that...
the old spark plug is definately the easiest and quitest method...a little poof and then a crumble that sounds nothing like broken glass...kinda like dry rice into a pot sound....

Yeah, my dad has it set that high on purpose. We have a lot of cars & the premiums were ridiculous, so he decided it was be easier to pay $1,000 if something happened. Luckily, my parents still pay my insurance...so I don't have to worry about that yet.
