View Full Version : Borla exhaust?

I'm getting a 3.0l escape put in, and will most likely be getting WR headers. I was wondering if someone has a clip of a 3.0l with headers and a borla style exhaust. I want a more of a deep ricer type sound because thats all there is to race around here and if I have flowmaster 40 series duals i don't think they will care to race me.
Call me cruel, or whatever... but no matter what im drivin, civics are over rated and i wanna beat one. lol

Our car is NOT an import! http://www.contour.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/troutslap.gif
And Borla is definitely not rice.

Hey, when you do find a car to race, make sure you take your car out of D and put it in R for "Race".

I keep seeing posts of you talking about street racing and wanting to go fast. I just thought you should understand some of the consequences of drag racing. Here's a thread for ya.

Ha, you guys have me mistaken. I guess I worded my statement a little wrong. I don't want a fart can noise, just something a little less than the sound of flowmaster 40 series.
Yes, we street race but there is an old road that is about 1mile in length, two lanes with wide shoulders and no traffic. It is open road and you can see for miles all ways so we know if a car is coming. People have been racing out here for 5-10 years now. Its well organized and completely away from innocent people. I honestly think the only difference in this road and the strip is the tree. heh

I bought it used, but yes it is from Trubendz. My precats are gutted, and I have a Trubendz high flow cat as well.

Thinking of getting the borla kit from trubendz. about how much would a muffler shop charge to put on a kit brought to them?
Topik

Just do it yourself. Your doing a 3.0 right? Also nemesis car IS loud. He has straight pipe except for the flowmaster muffler.

I was listening from his 14.6 video. Maybe it was how far away it was. What all is involved in putting exhaust on? put on lift and basically secure it under the car at key points?

A lift? It isn't even needed. Just jack the car up and stick a couple jackstands under it. Unless you do have access to a lift. Cause then it would be easier to swap out an exhaust on one. It's only a few bolts and a couple rubber bushings to remove the old one and install the new one.
Seriously, i don't mean to be an ass, but if you can't figure out how to remove and install a simple exhaust. Then i question your ability to swap out and build an engine.

It's easy to make the exhaust sound like ass, er rice, er importish.
No cats (pre's & main) & no resonator. Job painfully completed.

funny thing is, I didnt build the motor, Blackcoog did... secondly, im not puttig the motor in, my uncle is. He owns a shop and has a lift.

exhaust is easy. Breaking off rusted bolts should be the hardest thing you have to do

I can do it, just making conversation. I haven't even looked at the stock exhaust on my car...

Cant find any Magnaflow clips... Wade, how much will headers and a 3.0 change the sound of the borla?
NorCalCoug
01-31-2006, 07:25 AM
Duh, a lot. You're increasing the displacement of the motor by 20%, and then letting it flow even better with headers.
It will get louder by probably 15-20% or so. At least.
Tygerr
02-01-2006, 08:09 PM
Obviously a lot. The headers made it oh so sexy deep sounding. I have the actual Borla (which is a bit quieter then the trubendz borla) It's very deep and awesome though, I love it. Obviously more displacement will give it a more throaty sound as well.
If you can operate a ratchet, you can replace the exhaust. Unbolt the U-Clamp, Unhook all the hangers. Installation is reverse of removal. ;)

Wow, thats a strenious process right there. ha... kidding. Dont have a sound clip of your exhaust do you? I bet Borla + headers sounds nicely.

I have the actual Borla
Me too! True Borla single exit stainless steel. Nothing beats the sound of a Borla IMHO, at least on a Cougar. Low and throaty at idle, though it is quiet, but even at 2500 RPM cruising there is no drone at all, and WOT will make the occasional head turn :)
The larger diameter Trubendz piping + increased displacement + increased flow due to headers == Louder!

Sounds like a plan. Its what I expect to get. Flowmaster + Header = being heard from 3 miles away. ha

Really? You ever get your headers on man? I'm curious as to what the single exit sounds as compared to the duals.

I have the single exit True Borla with headers and a trubendz y w/out cat. I love the way it sounds...deep at idle nice "tone" at cruising speed. And it will let people knopw when you want to mess around
I honestly can't see myself EVER getting another exhaust except for the fact that it is kinda small for nitrous NOW...much less when i put a 3L in too.:(

No :( Not yet. I got swamped this fall, so I'm looking at an early Spring install - maybe if it's a bit warmer I'll be a bit more motivated. I did get the Y-pipe and a can of PB Blaster in early Fall though so at least I have the pieces :)
Hey, do you have a pic of that single exhaust?
Sorry, I don't have a pic of the exhaust. But it doesn't show up much anyway, it's quite stealthy. The tip is "custom", made by the original owner of the exhaust setup, but if you go here http://www.newcougar.org/gallery/showimage.php?i=124&c=7 this pic of my car in the Gallery just barely almost kinda shows the tip. Sorry it's in shadow.

Borla at WOT doesn't make the occasional head turn, it makes every head turn.
But then, my catalytic converters failed... all of the catalyst material just came falling out of the pre and main cat, so it's a bit louder now. :(
