Some more information about your car would be helpful.

I usually pull away from z24 easy. what type of cougar do you have what transmission type etc, etc.

i have a 2000 v6 mtx.. completely stock.. haven't done anythin to it yet..
maybe catback, an intake and a short shifter could fix my problem..

apparently your cougar is much faster than most cars on the road.

It's basically a drivers race, stock vs. stock, probalbly giving the z24 the advantage. What year z24? Basically, you outdrove him ;) :wtg;

No, my V6 ATX is slow...
Mine is very slow. I dont even try to race because i know i will get beat.

it was the older v6 cavy.. black 5 speed.. maybe a 99-00 i'd say..
i beat him but not by much he was at my mirror the whole way.. i had a hood on him.. i been driving manual for 6 years and had the cougar for 2 so i'm pretty sure i know how to drive it.. i just thought my car was faster than a cavalier.. guess not..
oh well, that means it will be very soon.. common tax return;)

My best friends cavi is a 98 Z24 ( 2.4L, I-4 ) and he has alot done to it. He pulls low 15's at the track. So i guess this car would be a good match up for the cougar.

Drivers race with the z24. With the regular 2.2 Not even close. The cavi will be a spot on the rearview.

99-00 were all 4-bangers. Chevy hasn't made a V6 Cav since probably 1992 (guessing).
That said, the 2.4 4-cylinder is strong, and the Z24 is light. They are 15.XX second cars out of the box. That race went as it should have; maybe you SHOULD have lost. Because I'd guess the stock Z24 is faster than the stock 2.5.

Well if you look at Demon's website, his wife has an 02' Z24 with an ATX. I would consider Demon to be an exellent driver and he managed to pull a 15.73 @ 87.8mph. Granted it does have some mods though.

oh.. i didn't know the z24 was a 4 banger? i'm chevy illeterate.. hate em.. so don't care to know anything about em..
ok well it was like a 99-00 z24.. since hearing all your replies maybe i'm glad i beat him so it means that i do know how to drive.. lol...
i whaled on him thru the high end tho.. 1st and 2nd and the beginning of third was when he was on my mirror.. but past about 34-3500 rpm in 3rd is when i pulled on him and we both braked as we were travelling double the speed limit in a 60...<--km/h live in canada
dear lord how i miss my eclipse.. r.i.p.:disgust:

Auto vs Auto both stock, 2.5 Cougar > Sunfire GT (2.4). Slightly modded, the sunfire wins, or my cars just stupid.

You raced a 2.2 ecotec then if it's the new body style, they're slightly slower then the 2.4's, but quicker then the old 2.2's.

Lol. Excellent driver, ok, lights green. Mash it and keep that sucker floored!
I get your point, but no one's really better at driving in a straight line with an automatic.

Yeah, the quicker you get into the high end the better, since this is where the cougars shine.
All cavy's are half decent off the line since their so damn light. Even the 2.2 pushrod is decent of the line, but they die off quick. My friend has an auto ecotech, he runs a 17.2, I beat him slighty better then my friends auto intake'd 01 tiburon. Course, the tiburon faired much better up top against me then the cavy did. Cavy's don't do well up top. (Although the 2.4's aren't shabby). I've never personally raced a 2.4 yet, but I have ridden in one. Off the line they are def. no slouch with near equal midrange, but worse top end.

Yup, w/o any of my new mods I figured I would just kill my friends sunfire gt. Nope, we took it from a 40 roll and he hung dead even :( If i remember correctly though we then went from a 60 and I started pulling, but not much.

yah i really noticed the high end pull.. that's where i really pounced on him.. once i hit the top of 3rd tho i braked.. and he did the ricer fly by and than braked after being ahead of me.. i let him, he can have back some of his pride.. i'm not sure tho if i raced the 2.2 or the 2.4 all i know is that it was black and said z24 on the side in red on the factory ground effect...
the car boogied for a cavy i couldn't believe it.. musta been the first time i've ever played with a manual cuz usually i race dudes in cavy's light to light and i just eat them up for fun.. i literally thought something was wrong with my car when he was right beside me.. my g/f was like what's wrong.. i'm like my car doesn't feel right.. LOL.. but when i come to think of it i laid a good 2 second squawk into 2nd gear.. weird.. guess i was driving fine..

my friend has a 2001 z-24 cavalier and before the engine swap i beat him by 1 1/2 car lenghts, so they have good acceleration, but now that i have the svt swap and headers i beat him by like 2 or 3 buses! oh, van3y, shift higher, like right before 7,000 r.p.m, and you shouyld have no problem beating that cavy ;)

If your analog tach said 6200, your engine was probably actually pretty close to 7K. The stock analog tach has a HUGE lag.
Do a search for "diagnostic mode" to find out how to activate the Cougar's DIGITAL tach. I use that at the drag strip.

My friend has a 2003 2.2l chevy cavalier and i owned him when i raced him. his car has a borla exhaust, performance headers, short ram intake, short throw shifter, some kind of performance tuner. the only thing my car has is a short throw shifter and short ram intake. we both have 5 speeds, but i completely dominated.:)

wow, let me get my boots on cause i'm calling bs on all you guys saying that you dominated/killed/and whatever other words that makes you sound cool, when you race a cavalier. do not judge every cavalier out there when you race a slow ass auto 2.2/2200 or even an auto z24. trust me that you will get your big heads blown up if you race a slightly modded 5speed z24/ecotec. and having a complete exhaust with short shifter DOES NOT come close to slightly modded...

NEWS FLASH - we aren't singling you out. There are plenty of slow Cavaliers and bad drivers out there, the same way there are a lot of fast Cougars out there.

I Killed/dominated/ect. an Ecotec Cavi a while back from 35mph roll, left it in 4th as he downshifted and I still walked him by a couple of busses up to 80. There's not much short of F/I that can make those cars decently fast.

Hi.
Welcome to the NECO forums.
Please take the time to read the stickied post at the top of this section entitled Road Tales. It will help educate you. :)
I prefer if we do not directly call people names. While harsh replies can be expected in this forum as the stickied thread states, please remember:
Someone driving 130mph down a city street in the middle of the day and comes here to brag about it is an idiot.
Someone who posts their opinion of a misinterpretation is not.
Keeping that in mind, please use discretion when throwing around words like that.
Seeing as to how it looks like this thread is going to go nowhere fast, I'm locking it pre-emptively. Name-calling really isn't tolerated very well by me. ;)
I'll be nice and not give anyone any warnings. Keep it civil, people.
