Given the possible conflicts with Indy dates/events, I think if things can come together quickly for an alternative location, we can still make it work. Time is really tight, but if things come together very quickly, I think we can indeed make it work.
St. Louis has been a favorite of mine for a while now. Its not too much farther than Indy for the east coast guys, and slightly closer for the west coast guys. I've looked on Gateway Intl Raceway's site and here's there June/July Schedule:
June 27 (Tuesday), Gates open at 5:00 pm
Street Tire Test and Tune with HS Regular Points
June 28 (Wednesday), Gates open at 5:00 pm
Slick Tire Test and Tune
June 30 (Friday), Gates open at 4:30 pm
Jr Dragster Regulat Points
June 30 (Friday/Sat. Morning), 8:00 pm to 3:00 am
Midnight Madness
July 2006
July 1 (Satruday), Gates open at 12:00 pm
Regular Points
July 5 (Wednesday), Gates open at 5:00 pm
Open Test and Tune (All Cars)
July 7 (Friday), Gates open at 4:30 pm
Open Test and Tune with Jr Dragster Points and Pro Mod Qual.
July 8 (Satruday), Gates open at 12:00 pm
Regular Points with Pro Mods
July 11 (Tuesday), Gates open at 5:00 pm
Street Tire Test and Tune with HS Regular Points
July 12 (Wednesday), Gates open at 5:00 pm
Slick Tire Test and Tune
July 14 (Friday), Gates open at 4:30 pm
Open Test and Tune with Jr Dragster (NO POINTS)
July 15 (Saturday), Gates open at 12:00 pm
Regular Points
July 18 (Tuesday), Gates open at 5:00 pm
Street Tire Test and Tune with HS Regular Points
July 19 (Wednesday), Gates open at 5:00 pm
Slick Tire Test and Tune
July 21 (Friday), Gates open at 4:30 pm
Open Test and Tune with Jr Dragster Points
I'm personally not sure if August is feasible for people or not, but here's the EARLY August schedule.
August 1 (Tuesday), Gates open at 5:00 pm
Street Tire Test and Tune with HS Regular Points
August 2 (Wednesday), Gates open at 5:00 pm
Slick Tire Test and Tune
August 4 (Friday), Gates open at 4:30 pm
Jr Dragster Points
August 4 (Friday/Sat morning), 8:00 pm- 3:00 am
Midnight Madness
August 5 (Satruday), Gates open at 12:00 pm
Regular Points
I'm not sure on a local Auto-X schedule, but those who want to drag can just take part in a Test-and-Tune event or a Midnight Madness event, instead of trying to rent the entire track which drives up costs.
LOCAL THINGS TO DO:
The Anheisuer Busch brewery is in St. Louis, I'm sure many folks of alcoholic age would be interested in that.
There's also Botanical gardens and other various things to do around town as well.
HOTELS:
Doubletree Hotel St. Louis at Westport (http://doubletree.hilton.com/en/dt/hotels/index.jhtml;jsessionid=3H4ID0LQZOOXUCSGBIWMVCQKIYF C5UUC?ctyhocn=STLWPDT)
Rates from Expedia:
6/29-7/2: $89/night
7/6-7/9: $89/night
7/13-7/16: $89/night
7/20-7/23: $89/night
8/3-8/6: $89/night
Those rates are for a Thurs-Sun hotel stay. The hotel has, among other things, an indoor pool, spa, parking, wireless internet access, 324 rooms, conference rooms, meeting rooms, air conditioned public areas. That sounds VERY similar to the hotel we currently use in Indy.
There's other hotels around anywhere from $45/night (Super 8, Motel 6, etc. Probably not our type of hotel) to over $100/night for the more upscale hotels. I mainly selected the Doubletree because Sonza had said that other car clubs have had events there as well.
I'm willing to do as much online research as I can to help, if I can get someone local to help with more direct contact with hotel/track, I think we might be able to make it work on short notice.
Lets hear what you guys think of this.
