Just finished driving home from work, using my 2000 cougar for the first time. This car is a blast!! This baby pulls good for a small V6. I was looking for a sporty 5spd with a sunroof and this car fits the bill. Especially considering I'm 6'2". The power seat is all the way down and back, but I fit fine. I blew past my buddy on the Southern State Pky, and called him on his cell-phone to let him know he was eating my dust!! He told me he liked my "Silver Bullet". DAMM, thats a great name for this car!! The Cougar already has an aftermarket air intake and muffler. In the spring it will be my regular commuter car to go to and from Brooklyn. Car has 84K miles and is in great shape, no problems. I already have some nice gray leather seats to replace the cloth ones. I usually do a lot of work myself (shade tree), and look forward to doing some mods and sticking my 2 cents in here.

Hey Chris
Welcome to the boards. Check out the Long Island NECO chapter when you get a chance. I am the moderator of our chapter, and usually help set up and plan meets. You can also check out IslandNECO.com to see some of our members and meets. We have members from all parts of the Island. I personally live off exit 63 LIE and drive to Garden City every day for work, so you may see my car caught in commuter traffic from time to time.
Where on Long Island do you live? You should post in the Long Island NECO chapter and introduce yourself.
Enjoy your stay here.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Actually, I paid $5300 for the car from a used car dealer. I consider that a fair price since the car is in nice shape. Thanks to all the great input on this board, I'm aware of the car's short-comings. I actually researched it before I bought it. So i wasn't surprised when the lights flickered a bit when I drove it. It seems I should carry a spare Alternator in my trunk! LOL I'll lube up the tracks on the sunroof and use it carefully, the tracks ARE PLASTIC!! At first I was looking for a sporty 5spd import, 2 dr Accord, Tiburon,Prelude, Solara etc. A few weeks ago, a female used car dealer pointed to a silver 2002 cougar. I laughed and said "Yea Right" and kept on walkin. On the way back I gave it a second look. The front looked sharp, nice lines on the sides, back looked cool!! Interior looked sleek!! After I took it for a test drive I was hooked! I couldn't afford the $11K they were asking, but I knew I wanted a Cougar!! I researched the car and found it had a following and a good aftermarket, and were selling for reasonable dollars. Why did FORD drop the ball on this one. I saw pics of the concept Cougar and it was hot!!, would have been a winner. I guess the competition was to stiff and the bad rap already in place. The reviews weren't good either, What the heck did these guys expect, It was an entry level sports coupe! Good styling, acceleration and handling, all for a reasonable amount of money! Again thanks for the warm welcome

Well the platform the cougar was built on, the contour, was canceled and Ford didn't want to move it to another platform. Plus ford refuses to have any 2 door sport car that can anyway compete with a mustang... hence the much smaller engine.
And don't listen to George... most of us don't.

Well, its been almost 2 weeks since I brought the cat home. So far its been a blast. No problems to report. The weather in the northeast has been great, more spring like than winter. I've had the sunroof open most of the time! Hope it doesn't break before a snow storm hits. So wether your tall or short, lets keep these Cougars running and looking good.
