ok, I know these have come up before, but what I'm looking for is this...

I want a bare minimum MTX. I want something that can hold the power of a 3.0l with headers, exhaust, and possibly SVT cams. Looking at about 200-215 fwhp.

Ok, I don't want any super built MTX, just a normal MTX would work. My uncle has his own transmission shop so the labor will be extremely cheap. Could I just get a stock MTX and clutch off of car-part or something and go that way? I want to know the bare minimum it would cost me to do this.

I found a MTX with 101k miles on it for $350. I know I would have to rebuild it, how much for a stock rebuild? And misc parts that I would have to get?

No labor, no performance.... if this post is somewhere I'm sorry.

Bare minimum. If you want it to be exactly as Ford would have done it (which is the way I wanted my Contour) you need to add a few more goodies to that list. For a complete swap you would need the engine wiring harness, ECU and radiator.

Personally I prefer the idea of swapping the harness and ECU because that leaves out the chance that the resistor *might* come unhooked sometime down the road. The car was still somewhat quirky after all was said and done. The brake lights didnt want to go off but some creative work fixed that. I never did fix the clutch override so the car was able to be started in gear and the cruise control didnt work. Put about 10K on it in this form before I blew the diff and decided it was time to take it to stock and move onto something more valueable which brings me to the Volvo and the Cougar.

If your going to go to this work, please, please, please put a LSD into the trans. The Contour was just a stock Zetec and I still killed the stock diff.

Total cost of my swap was about a grand, not counting the labor but counting the $100 garage heater since I did it in December of `04 and the garage was damn cold. That price is also counting the Spec stage III clutch that I also installed while it was apart. The most cost effective way is to by a parts car. I bought the front end of a `97 Contour for mine, that way I knew that I had everything that was needed.

EDIT: Cross posted. This reply was supposed to go in the thread that you linked.
