Looking for a reliable, running, winter car to make it through the end of the winter.

Contour, Taurus, something of the like. It doesn't need to be pretty, but it does need to work :)

If anyone see's something on the side of the road and filled me in, it would be much appreciated :)

Thanks,

-Matt

Taurus just recently got fixed... its working great but I have to have that CSVT up and running...

How long can you wait? I need to sell the thing soon (but not before the Contour is running) to make pavement space for the car trailer that I just bought.

93 Taurus (3L Vulcan) -- its been my daily driver since October of 93 -- its a hearty runner and just got a brand new Radiator, water pump and thermostat.. I bought it with 123k and I think its in the 160's now.. its been to Illinois, Nebraska, Indiana and South Dakota... it's been a reliable car for me..

the only probs are that its sort of getting to the period where struts and brakes should be replaced at some time.. The fluids should be monitored.. it does not burn or leak oil but every so often I did have to add some brake fluid. Also there is a hole in the Catalytic Convertor which makes it a little loud but there is a new muffler on it. You might be able to weld and repair the cat as a new one is 200-300 :(

Lastly there is a rock chip in the front window which has caused a crack in the middle of the windshield and there is no key to the trunk but you can open it from the switch inside the car.

Tires are Kumho's and have alot of life left.. great Winter car.. and heats great as well.

I'll have to talk to Chris and Adam and see if we can get the CSVT running very soon so we can talk more about the Taurus if your interested.

I'd like 500 for it or best offer.. its been taken care of well.. I have the owners manual and previous receipts from the previous owner.

I'll throw in my Chiltons Manual too :)

here is the only picture I could find here at work without me going out to the parking lot and taking a picture with my cell phone..

its in the background of this picture - parked curbside... its blue - sort of a slate blue?

I have an '86 VW jetta GLI with a 16v swap for sale. I just got done doing all the matinence it should need for a while. It does have manual steering, but has the nice recaro front seats, and a CD player. :)
more expensive than Crispys taurus though.

Very interested. Does it pass WI emissions? Trans. shift smoothy?

we do not have emmisions therefore I cannot answer... sorry.. although I did disclose all that I know.. there is DEFINATELY a hole in the catalytic converter and it blows exhaust thru it...

However if you do want a catalytic converter I would be willing to order it for you and you reimburse me.. I would get the part at cost (Walker is 30% off MSP) here at work and then shipping but you would have to install it.

Trans shifts fine..

I have a Cat hookup I've used in the past, if you can beat about $50 bucks I'd just have you order one and throw it in the trunk. I have no issues installing it, I made a custome Y-Pipe for my 3.0L. I can cut weld and hack with the best of them.

I am a bit leary with buying a car that hasn't had the need to pass emissions. But if it doesnt burn oil, and has no CEL, odds are it will pass if you get it good and hot.

Any fluid leaks? I have a brand new garage, I'd hate to ruin the floor

there was leaks when the radiator was cracked.. there also was a portion of the oil pan gasket that was sticking out causing a little oil on the driveway.. that has also since been fixed.. it currently does not have any leaks as both isses were fixed/replaced this year.

Also... not sure if this helps with the Emissions deal but I bought the car from a dealership in downtown Milwaukee... so if that area had Emissions testing then it might have passed.. although I think the car was previously titled in Illinois, I will look at the title tonight.

Is there any sort of sticker or anything that would alert me that the car went thru any sort of inspections or emissions testing and passed or failed?

A new Catalytic converter would be about 175-200 with me buying it here at work.. its a direct fit but I'd have to pay sales tax and shipping from Walker to the office :(

I could probably get you a good deal on struts/shocks/mounts and brake parts if needed -- but again, you install and you reimburse. :)

Really the only way to tell if it Passed was by the print out slip from the Emissions station.

Not sure if I'd even do the struts or not, I would be interested in pricing for the brakes though :)

Does it have ABS?

Crispy
01-25-2006, 06:38 PM
no ABS.. front disc - rear drum..

just priced it all here at work.. I can grab Raybestos or Wagner items for dirt cheap.. maybe 15-20 a pop for all before my discount and then pads/shoes for about another 50 - again w/o my discount..

Brakes work fine.. its just you can tell that they vibrate when the pedal is pushed.

I would advise new mounts for sure in the rear.. I think the rear drivers one is worn out

go to www.rockauto.com and check out the parts I can get..

its a 93 Ford Taurus GL 3L - VIN U

got pics of the Stang?

Mtang and Estiem are going to work on the CSVT this weekend... hopefully we can get the thing runnin soon

We'll probably be working on it this Saturday - if you want to come on down, lend a hand, check out the Taurus in person and grab some chow - you are welcome to do so. :)

whip me a PM or call my celly 608-239-7531 if you want an address or more info on the Taurus.

BTW -- checked the title -- it was previously titled in Illinois before I bought it in Milwaukee.

Weather permiting I would be all about helping out. If there is a chance of snow it's a no go, I can't risk the stang getting all salty, etc.

Otherwise, I'm more than game to help wrench :)

Do you still live in Cottage Grove?

Crispy

I still live in Cottage Grove but 1 street over from the last time you were probably there..

Address is --

912B Sunset Drive
Cottage Grove, WI 53527

Weather for tomorrow is as follows.. (but may change)
A few showers in the morning becoming steady in the afternoon. High around 40F. Winds SE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 70%. Rainfall near a quarter of an inch.

40 Degrees means zero snow or salt but it will be wet.. The axles are in the car now so we should be able to move the CSVT into the garage to stay out of the rain -- otherwise I have a 12x12 EZ-UP

I should know later tonight if tomorrow works for Chris. :)

I've got a line on a beater for sale just down the street from me. I'm taking a peek at it Saturday morning. I'll keep ya in the loop as to how it goes, it would simplify the deal from my end.

sounds good... let me know regardless...

If you don't buy mine, thats fine.. I might just keep it around for either Wayne or myself to keep driving to work cuz his truck gets 11mpg and the CSVT takes premimum -- the Taurus gets the best mpg out of anything we own including my Cougar.

Wow, what a waste of my afternoon.

Biggest pile of crap ever. It should have been towed to a junkyard years ago!

So I'm still in the market for one.

mine is still available at this moment and there is another up the road with a forsale sticker of 300 on it... I think its some sorta Olds -- I just glanced as I was heading to the grocery store.

Turn-Key in the CSVT is taking a tad longer than I had anticipated due to the weather and Chris having a wedding to attend - but its CLOSE..
