I thought it was the lib's that wanted to sellout to the US?
I went conservative soley on the grounds of getting the party that has been in control, OUT of control. Either way, its like being in prision and being told to choose your "buddy" :ugh:

Martin has MANY flaws....
I just dont want Canada to become an extension of the US and I really dont want privatized health care.
I'd like to see Belinda Stronach as the new leader of the Liberal party

I don't want Canada to become an extension of the US either. That is just another one of the Liberals scare tactics to get people not to vote conservative. As far as heath care, look how many private heath clinics have opened up since the liberals took power. Wait times have risen, we have less and less doctors and Nurses. yet taxes keep going up. So obviously the liberals weren't helping the situation. I'm not saying the conservatives will be any better, but there needs to be a change.
And Belinda Stronach is a traitor! If it weren't for her Dads power in Aurora she wouldn't of gotten back in.

Canada has made an error of astronomical proportions. I can't believe the amount of people that voted for another party other than the Liberal's solely for the fact that they didn't care who it was, so long as it wasn't the Liberal's in power. That's pretty brutal in my opinion.
It's not about voting to get someone out, it's about voting to bring someone in.

I agree with you, but If you wanted to get the liberals out of power your only option was Conservative.

i couldnt vote :(....since i live in a residence away from home i cant vote in my area.......and when ever people talk about the leaders being bad candidates i always think of a southpark quote
" candadites are always only going to be either giant dushes or a **** sandwhich, they're the only brown nosers that get to that point and u have to deside which one is the lesser of two evils"......
but i would have gone liberal......

OOOOOO...I can't resist a good political discussion.
Well I voted for the Green Party.
Ever since I have been interested in politics, I have been a loud and proud Tory. But as many of you have already mentioned...Harper is not to be trusted. Nor are some of the religious groups from out west that are backing and fundings the big-players within the party.
Nothing against religion. Its everyones right to choose one. But the values of one should not dictate the ways of our nation.
Now why I voted Green. For generations, we have seen both Liberal and Tory, majority governments. Some good, some horrible!!! We now live in a different world today and have many parties within our parliament. It is time to take a lesson from some of the more modernized governments that are evolving from Europe.
Coalition governments are the way of the future. When one party has a majority government, they are allowed to force through whatever bills they like. The opposition takes every opportunity to cast their bickers in the name of partisanship, and not really offer and real objective criticism.
With a coalition, you have a greater distribution of power amongst 4 or five parites. Then in order to pass bills through parliament, at the very least, three of the five would have to be on board. You would see better discussion in parliament about the TRUE merrits and TRUE concerns.
So I voted for the Greens making the statement for a greater distribution of power. ALso because they are prolly the closest alternative to the Tories. Very similar fiscal platform, but a lot more attention to our social system and the environment (Which is something we can no longer ignore).
Thats my rant. Hope ya enjoyed.

I just wanted to say I voted Liberal. Main reason, I didn't want to see a conservative leader as mentioned :) and also because I honestly felt if the Liberals did win, that the weight of Canada would be watching them. But meh...NDP won in my area anyway.

I did not vote this is why : my family, loves liberals (although everyone in the burbs votes conservative)for some odd reason usually i like liberals too because of the colourzzz. I like conservative's platform i just dont see how Canada can logically do what they plan hire x- ammount of police, and lower tax rate without hurting the economy, or loosing my preciouse free health care. Yes i did come to this country on a Bananaboat, however the liberals dont offer anything as a platform other then vote for us because we dont want the conservatives to win, or vote for us because we' have boners for minorities. So ... my only other option was to vote NDP ,, but why would i waste my time they will never win. Politics stink they all suck

Yeah but I live in Aurora where Belinda Stronach has here daddy backing her. NDP had no chance. Hell, even the mayor was campaigning for her. Her father has a big influence in this area. The Tories were the only competition, and they still lost.

NDP was my choice. Actually, most of Windsor's choice. Brian Masse is the only politician I've ever heard of, that actually does what he says he's going to do, and I would hope that that policy would come from the top. Nobody will give the NDP a chance though. Which is funny, because they've never had the chance to mess up, so, nobody will vote for them :s

I wanted to vote NDP or Green....but in my area, neither had a chance. Guelph has gone Liberal red for many years. The only option was to vote Liberal if I wanted to keep out Harper. I know thats not the way you are supposed to vote but the last 2 elections have been more like a war.
I really like Jack Layton though!

I was gonna say!!!
And thats prolly why people hated Harris so much. He had one helluva mess to clean up!!!
Speaking of Rae...Great news for the Libs out there...Its rumoured that Rae is gonna be running for the leadership!!! HAHAHAHAHHHAHAAA!!!!
If that happens and he wins, you will see a conservative majority prevail out of the next election. Ontario will never forget/forgive Rae, and Ontario holds the 'Balance of Power' in deciding the government that gets elected. The Liberals will lose in every riding if Rae is their leader.

I think a minority is the best type of government!
I really liked it last year when EVERYONE had to work TOGETHER to pass bills (Ex. Budget). Many people think it’s the worst way to govern the country because things don’t happen fast enough.

At first I thought it was a bad thing, that nothing would get done. Like a stalemate. But Now I think it is better, it works like a lot of European governments do. Each party keeps the other one in check. ;)

Bingo!!!
As long as they realise that we don't want another election in 18 months, and decide to work together, it will foster a much longer term view.
Did anyone catch the news today? I have to admit, as distrusting as I am of Harper, he said something today that I was very very happy to hear. He had said that he was gonna start having OUR navy patrol our Northern shores with ice breakers. The US ambassador make some remark to the effect that its not in the interest of either nation to do so...or something to that effect. Harpers reply was priceless....."The Canadian people gave us the mandate to govern this Canada, not the US ambassador" BOOYA...Basically he told the yanks to sit their a$$'s down and SHUUUUUTTTTT UUUUPPPPPP!!!! We'll do whats right for us first.
I never thought I would hear him say something like that!!! Very relieving, considering the great fear that he'll sell us out to the US.

Yeah, because the Liberals made up this whole idea that if Harper wins he'll sell ust to the U.S. Just more scare tactics on the Liberals part!
