I plan on using a full 3.0 02 Taurus/Sable motor. I also plan on adding an SVT cam. I was reading something about oil pan and such. Could you guys tell me what is needing for this build? I know there is a build sticky, but it is so confusing to me. My cousin (previous owner of my car) says he thinks I will need to make changes to the computer with the full swap. Can you guys tell me this too? I understand that you guys get angry and wanna call me a noob for not using the search tool. I have been here long enough to read over everything, but not being mechanically inclinded, it just gets confusing with all of the possible builds.
Just need to know other than the full taurus motor, what else I will need, and from that list what can be taken from my current 2.5. Thanks guys

Ok asshat. Your not mechanically inclined. FINE! So search, read and LEARN! Mechanically inclined is not a reason. Also whats the point since your uncle is doing the swap u said.....
OHH and WTF is inclinded?????? Try inclined!

K, made a typo, ban me... My uncle is doing this swap, but I need to know what I need to add so I can price it up. I have about $2k to spend. Trying to get a specific price check.

children! 2k is probably just enough for the engine but no aftermarkets.
Chill out with the namecalling or it's locked.
Nafunu: Yes, you need to search on the details. The general overview is as Stealthy said. $2k is good enough for the donor motor, port matching, and all of the gaskets, seals, and a good buffer amount for incidentals you'll need. I'd recommend an Escape/Tribute engine- It's easier to disassemble if you're doing the work.
mond: Come on, man. I've played the "search nazi" too, but it doesn't help anyone/anything. Nafunu needs to look for the specifics, ask the right questions. That said, Nafunu needs to want to learn, not just have the answer handed out...

I've researched but what to add really isn't the question here. My parents are helping me out on the engine swap and they are asking for a price check. I figured I could ask you guys a few simple questions. ha, I think it would be quicker to type the answer instead of flaming. Or not...

The price really depends on what you have done. Here is what I've paid or will pay so far. You can cut a few more corners since I am adding a few aftermarket / performance parts. This is prices of 3.0l portmatched with 2.5intake
3.0l Engine 200 <--- 40000 miles and picked it up
SVT UIM 150
SVT LIM 50
SVT Cams 130
24lb RETURN Injectors 30
GT 65mm TB 50
SVT ECU 40
Rekeyed 50
OIL Pan 120
WR Headers 375
Exhaust 330
Chip 350 <--- SCT 4 bank
Gaskets 300 <---- includes clevite bearings
SVT Clutch/Flywheel 45
Torsen LSD 400
Heads <--- I'm doing this myself but 500-1200 depending on who, where, amount done
Total price: $2620 WITHOUT the head work
A straight 3.0l swap (without matching to 2.5 intake) should cost:
Engine 200
Chip 350
EGR Welding 50
Torsen LSD 400
Clutch/ Flywheel 45
WR Headers 375
Exhaust 330
Total Price: $1755
Prices may vary so add another $500 for cushion. You can leave out some of the performance mods that I am doing, but wont see 230hp like other people are. The best way to tune the car would be to put it on a dyno which will cost another 200 on top of the chip.
Hope that helps.

the hell did you get a clutch and flywheel for 45? lol
Good pricing list though.
EDIT: 400 for a Torsen LSD? hook me up!

Expect to pay $300 for the SVT upper and $250 for SVT cams unless you come across a deal where someone doesn't know what they are selling.

I just sold tigg my SVT upper for 250, I paid more than that but you can come across a deal every now and then (like mine)

Yup if you need to sell them than it will go for $250 instantly.

The clutch and flywheel was used, but in good shape. I bought it mainly for the flywheel, but will be using the clutch for a while at least.
I guess the torsen is more than I said? I hadnt priced one yet since I dont plan on putting one in right now. :cover:
I want to see just how bad that torque steet will be. :banghead: and how many axles I can bust. and how many times I get flamed for not doing it.
And yes I picked up the SVT Cams and UIM very cheap.

Very nice. Did you find a wrecked SVT contour

very good planning. Thats sorta what im doing, except my time frame is to get the 3L towards september. I have a few parts now, once I have enough money I'll build the motor then get the aftermarkets.

Where is a place to get SVT cams? Could you get them from autozone or oreillys or something like that?

no. they are fairly difficult to get. Post in the WTB section.

I tried that route before but most places won't sell just the cams. You can still try though.
Heck even if you can't get just the cams it might be worth it to buy the whole motor if its in good shape wouldn't it? I mean you'll get the cams, UIM, LIM, SVT heads, ect. Plus an assortment of spare parts with which to clutter your garage in the hopes that they may one day be useful. About a year ago I found a totalled Contour SVT with devastating rear and side damage but practically no damage to the front end save the radiator he would have sold me for $1000. I'm still kicking myself for not picking it up but that was long before I knew jack about these cars.

Now don't ever do that again. :disgust:
Kidding. As much as we ***** about it around here, it is good to see people using the search function.

To update. I picked up my SVT CAMS from ebay for 150 shortly after my other post.
Not bad at all. But to go back to my initial post, would it be worthwile to pick up a wrecked SVT Countour with minimal powertrain damage for the different parts like cams, UIMs, LIMs, clutch, ect? I mean if you add all of that up even getting it from car-parts you'd probably end up saving a few pennies. Especially if its low mileage then you could use crossover parts on a 3L swap from the Countour's engine instead of yours.

Depends on the price really. I personally wouldn't pay more than 700 if you get the whole car with a running engine. I guess 1000 would be a good price if you want to take the time to part it out and make some cash back. A lot of other drive train parts are interchangeable too so you would have a lot of extra "backup" parts. The odds of you finding one close to you is very slim though.
