I need to pick my Clevite rod and main bearings up and was on Draxas and found them. Now my question: I thought the rod bearings came in three different sizes or thickness?? I searched up and down but cant find the thread. The motor i bought is a 02 sable with 10K confirmed miles so i don't think ill need to get anything refinished but when i tear it all down ill know 100% what needs to be done.

Dont buy from draxas.... they are way over priced.

advance autoparts is cheaper than that, but I've found them for only 22 dollars.

Just as the previous member mentioned I wouldn't buy from Draxas. I paid for a set of Clevite Main bearings, and never received them nor did I get a refund for my purchase. I would never buy anything from them.

Well i found the thread:

Clevite rod bearings, part number CB-1772P. Available in standard, -.25MM, -.50MM, and -.75MM.

So i guess i just need standard but is the part number still CB-1772P?

Unless there is abnormal scoring or pitting in the crankshaft, standard size bearings are just fine. You'd need oversized bearings if there'd been damage to the crank.

Even if there isn't, you'd probably want to have the crank polished before installing new bearings.

As for price... It's a few bucks here or there.. Why not support the folks that support our platform?

they actually might, I dont know. From what ive read it seems the mains are fine and can hold more than enough power than Ill ever see. Im not removing pistons or anthing so dont have to worry about it.

Get the part number for them and put it in the search box...numbers only is the way I did it.

Well i mine since I'm going to be down there i might as well do the complete Clevite package. I tried to search for them on the site with no luck. I emailed them though and see if they have or can sell them to me. Thanks

I'm not sure if you know what all needs to be done when changing the mains. I sure as hell don't. It's been posted in several different threads that there is no need to replace them unless you are removing the pistons.

Here is one such thread: http://www.newcougar.org/forums/showthread.php?t=8070&highlight=main+bearings

If you know exactly what you want thats cool. If not you should read this thread and then do a search for "main bearings".

It seems that just to replace the mains you are talking about some extra loot. And for what reason if the stock mains are more than enough?

GL though.

IDK really now. I would like to know from some other people (3L builders) if i should do the main bearings or not. If the stock ones are ok than ill leave them. The motor i have has 10K miles and i will be tearing it down very soon to check everything and get my heads sent off for PnP.

think about the labor involved for changing the main bearings too.....you gotta remove all pistons and connecting rods, undo the main bolts and girdle and change the bearings then put it all back together. which is a huge and scary pain in the ass

unless your going for high hp, i wouldnt bother with main bearings
