View Full Version : Cougarfest Activities Vote

I'm with Matt on what I enjoy about Cougarfest. I walk the parking lot and hotel rooms till 4:00am in an attempt to meet all the new people and talk with the veterans. It's the reason I look forward to it each year. I can AutoX and Drag anywhere but I only see certain Cougar buddies once a year.

Don't get me wrong, I love watching turbo 3.0L's tear down the track and LSD/Koni/Eibach equippied kitties take the turns. Drifting around the AutoX course was a major highlight for me from 2004, and the complaints about no official AutoX last year got me excited because I saw how many people were interested in it. However these add complexities to the event which translates into more cash requirements. We are working to make both AutoX and drag less of a cash requirement this year, but here's another vote to see what people are thinking.

Let's also use this thread for "cash-less" ideas, like the presentations of last year given by fellow members. It cost us nothing but added to the agenda items. Any ideas for "free" events please post below.

Im sure me and sonza could do an autox how to to get more people involved, educated about. Including set ups, driving tips, videos. Not like i have a lack of vids

and im coming either way, but id rather see autox than drag. But im gonna autox the people i want to autox at offical SCCA events so no biggie

I dont need either - I am the butterfly :wiggle:

Lots of activities are good, so long as they don't require people to dissapear for the whole day!
It kinda sucked to 'lose' people for 10 hours at the track... maybe make the track stuff half days this year?

The more time we can spend as a group, the better though :)

My option isnt there:
I would be much more inclined to attend if there was SOME kind of racing event.

I'm more than happy to conduct another Electronics presentation. I think we need more self proclaimed "pros" in their fields to step up and make presentations to help everyone who wants to increase their knowledge. For example, someone should do a fiberglass / bodywork presentation, maybe someone else do a full engine / drivetrain presentation for non-mechanic types, another on detailing and car car... these are examples of ideas that everyone could DEFINITELY gain by seeing.

As a new cheap / free idea potential, I'd love to see some formal group organized outings ( no offense to George ( Nemesis )) but we could prove him wrong by finding things to do as a group or a few small groups in the area and make them formal instead of random people just taking off last minute and people not knowing about cool things to do.

I think more How-Tos would be interesting. Those are free and they don't necessarily need to be in an auditorium type arena. Kenny installing cold air intakes last year would have been an excellent opportunity for a How-To.

Also, maybe give an FAQ type seminar, for lack of a better word, on some of the more common modifications. I know that FAQs can be found in most of the folders (ie 3L, suspension, etc), but honestly, I'm more of a visual person and learn better when I have visual aids. If you tell me I need to change the front strut bearing on my 02 to get aftermarket springs to fit, I honestly have no clue what you are talking about. That's just my suggestion.

Seriously, I'd be thrilled about the event if someone just organized a cheap rate at the hotel and I got to hang out with all you guys for 3 days and nights.

I did the GMK CAI installs once it got dark and all throught the night. I want to do an offical how to, but only after sunset. I dont want to get sunburned again! lol.

I feel the autoX is one of the most exciting events. If hosted by something like the SCCA would it increase the commities cost? Or could each AutoXer just pay the SCCA's entry fee?

Drag is fun, but autoX is MUCH more exciting.

I had a blast out on the track last year and really enjoyed seeing the people partake the Autocross event..

I honestly want to see or participate in both again this year.. The last 3 years at Indy with CF I didn't really get to relax and enjoy the complete festivities like I wanted..

In all honesty I'm not really a social butterfly as my age group is now getting more extinct from the people who show up.. Although I do tend to enjoy the parking lot drinking time. WHOOT!

This may be a silly question given the nature of the area we will be holding fest at but, by chance, would there happen to be a rifle range or something nearby? I know myself and several other members happen to be interested in weaponry and it could provide a few hours of entertainment (or sheer embarrassment as I outshoot everyone there ).

A firing range sounds like a fun event.

I would check laws on concealed weapons permit. Gus keeps a permit, but here it goes by county. I don't know what Indy's laws are. I would also check about bringing weapons across state lines.

EternalOne

I have a CWP as well. My permit works for both Michigan and Texas, but when I moved I had to keep it disassembled in the car, locked up. I have a nice gun-tote, tho, so no worries for me.

I was just wondering. I haven't had a chance to see what my system will do in competition yet, but we've been tuning it in the shop for a while now and have hit a 154.3 so far. Does anyone happen to remember what the winner from last year was in a two subwoofer catagory?

EternalOne

Last year there were no categories for the SPL, it was just more of a dB Drag style setup, with loudest going home the winner. The winner was Nutty, but I don't remember what he hit.

I am hoping to bring my Talon with me to fest with me, which will give me a 2nd car to run on the track and also my SPL vehicle. Either way I won't include my Talon in the results of the SPL, mostly because I'm running some serious competition equipment and its not in my Coug.

That's cool. I'm just running some stuff from my old sponsor right now, but I'm looking into getting a pair or 13" JL w7's with a pair or 1000.1 amps to run them. Doubt I will have those by fest tho. Right now I'm just trying to get my car painted and finish getting the trunk/interior glassed.

Nice, there's only two companies I use for subs and that's Orion or JL.

Right now I'm getting ready to install my 2 12" HCCA's, each with an Orion 9002 powering them. The rest of the car has MB Quarts and are powered by an Orion 5004. It's one helluva setup, but nowhere near what I'm used to running -- good enuff for a daily driver tho. ;)
