View Full Version : Photoshoot at CF2k6?

Ok, we're getting a lot more cars lately that have reached magazine quality, and many others on their way up the ladder quickly. How would ya'll feel about having a professional photographer at 2k6, for multiple shoots. My cousin is a pro, and they have some of those crazy $30k cameras, plus all of the equipment to put photos onto posters, mousepads, tshirts, mugs, plaques, and more. They're looking for more business outside of their core (they generally do 100% figure skating events) -- and are thinking that who else loves their pics taken but ppl who've spent assloads on their cars... ;) They would be able to offer the following:
1) Group Photo
We've always had to stitch together the shots, and they end up, well, ok but not the best. They could do a single shot, and fit us all in, plus the quality would be high enough for a large poster print from the event.
2) Calendar Shoot
Instead of trophies, why not choose 12 of the "top" people, and shoot a calendar for the following year. This could be sold on the site as an added income to help cover the costs for hosting and/or next years CF.
3) Track Shoot
They can do "action" shots (their camera takes 30 pics a second, which they can overlay), or just true, crisp and clear pics of a launch/win/whatever.
4) Individual Shots
They can do "beauty shots" of each persons car, if they wanted. These could be turned into photos, videos, posters, whatever. They even can provide the digital versions, but they are large files on their highest setting. (Something like 30MB for the big shots.)
I'm sure there is much more that could be taken. I know a lot of ppl here have nice cameras, and as a group we end up with a TON of shots, but having a pro there who knows lighting, angles, etc would be good for those looking to get more sponsors.
The best part of all of this? It wouldn't cost a dime to have them come out. They take care of everything, the only thing we need to do, is make sure that some people would purchase photos/etc. I am doing this to see what the interest is, and if it'd be feasible for them to come out next year. Give me your thoughts, and remember, this wouldn't add any cost to CF at all, except if you wanted to buy photos.

sounds good.
can you find out exactly what equipment they use, and also some examples?
EternalOne

Right from their mouth:
"Canon 1D or Canon 10D for the still cameras with Canon 70-200mm F2.8 lenses For video, we use 3 chip broadcast quality cameras.. They are mostly JVC digital cameras.. and we use JVC commercial VHS decks and DVD recorders."
They are looking at perhaps even doing a profit sharing system with CF here, as well. Perhaps 2% or so of the profits will go back to CF for allowing them to be at the event.
You can view the products they offer here: http://www.ledinvideo.com/photo/products/index.html

I would also like some professional pics of my car.

Great, I knew I could count on Matt to be in. ;)
Maybe I'll arrange to send the photos off in sponsorship packages, as well, if ppl are interested in gaining some sponsors without going though the pre-selection hassle.

Hey John is this something that the "non-Cougar owners" could also participate in??? Sounds like a great idea BTW. Morph did something similiar to this at Bash '02. The guy took a pic of everyones car and showed us the proofs and we could buy plaques with the photo on it.....it was a neat souviner to take home

Yup, anyone could participate man! They do the sublimation, as well, which is how you can transfer the pics onto plaques, coffee mugs, t-shirts, mouse pads, etc. You can check all their products that they offer at http://www.ledinvideo.com -- any of that will be available, but they'd ship it after fest, since they do all of that at the office.

what would the prices be like? i would LOVE to get some nice high quality pics. no doubt. not only of my car, but other members too!

I'm not sure on the prices, but I can ask them tonite when I go over there.
Nighttime shots are no problem, I'm sure. Their photographer is great with lighting conditions, and setting mood with each shot -- so depending on where you get your photos taken, you could end up with some really hot beauty shots. I'm looking forward to it, for sure!

My first thought was, what a rip-off, I own a 1D, why the hell would I want to pay for shots I can easily take myself?
The more I think about it, the more I want to just dish out XX Dollars rather than "babysitting" a really expensive camera all weekend.
E1, I am totally down with this.

That and they have the nice lenes for the cameras, as well. (If I remember correctly, the lens cost 2x what the camera ran.)
And the benefit of a professional photographer lining up the shots and having the ability to print them up to poster sized is nice, as well.

Matt and I called dibs on Heidi already. ;) She's gotta do our "Naughty and Nice" photo shoot for our cars.
Of course, Matt hasn't heard what my new paintjob is gonna look like yet, either -- so I dunno if my car will fit into the "nice" category any longer, lol...

I swear if you show up in black with a bumper that has fangs on it, you will see some canadian wrath! :disgust:
- after talking to you this afternoon though, I still believe you will still be in the nice category, but it will be more like "omggggggg nice!!! " then

Doesn't look like they'll be coming. The company is running itself out of business lately, and I doubt they will even exist come another month. (This is all rather recent, within the past 2 weeks...)
