View Full Version : Ugh . . . need more gauges, what to put 'em in?

So, here's the dilly-o. I've got a gauge pod with water temp and oil pressure in it right now. As many of you know, I'm adding nitrous to my car. And beings that I heart my hybrid and don't want to cause "danger to manifold", then have the floorboard explode into the interior of the car while I fry my piston rings, I'm getting a wideband A/F gauge. I'll also obviously have a nitrous bottle pressure gauge. So I need a place to stick these two dandy little doo-dads.
The question, of course, is where do I put 'em? The gauge pod is occupied, and I'm not going to chuck my oil pressure and water temp gauges. I'm not real keen on losing two of my air vents because I like my heat and A/C, cursed Smarch weather. Plus I want to keep the gauges in my line of sight, if I'm at the track and motor goes boom because I was too busy not crashing to look over and see the A/F meter going crAzAY thats not so good either.
Right now, much as it makes me shudder, I'm considering one of the "universal" two-place gauge pods mounted on the dash shroud. However, as always I am open to suggestion, so if anyone has an idea, make with it.
Thanks in advance.

hack up one of the "frog eye" honda mounts and graft them on the plastic between the steering wheel and cluster.

you could mold one onto each side of the gauge cluster on top of the vents

That might not be bad. What'd be really sweet-ass sweet would be if someone with the mad skeelz fabbed up a dash which could accomodate two 2 7/16" gauges like over on CEG.

you can have nitrous pressure gauges hooked up to your lines that show your pressure.........check zex.com
If you want a nitrous gauge they reads the 1600psi then i'd just spend like 100 bucks on the 4 gauge pillar! Thats just my opinion though

I may be doing some fiberglass work this weekend, I'll see if I can come up with something.

Even if I did, that would be useless to me. As I'm banging through gears the last thing I want to do is have to squint all the way across the car to make sure everything's .
Jrak, I tried the ass placement already but they were painful to sit on and hard to read . . . If you come up with anything, be it an adapted pillar pod or whatever, I'd love to check it out. Four gauges in a pillar pod seems like it'd be crowded though, just my $.02. I ain't gonna be too picky though.
I'll post up the link to the CEG thing I mentioned when I get home, I can't access it from work, but it was a pretty cool setup

I figured you usually had your head up there anyhow so it would work out. But seriously now I will see what I can come up with and let you know. If you like the idea I will just modify mine and swap you + a couple bucks for supplies and what not.

 I try to keep it out of there when I'm driving, there's enough people who seem to go "seat belt on, depress brake, start car, insert head into ass" on the road as it is.

Well I lost the pic which had my CF guages installed in the HVAC controls. But this one will suffice.
The HVAC controls are Exactly the size of a standard autometer guage. I made a plate and installed mine from the back of the panel. They look HOT. I relocated my heater controls the glove box. (later they will go under the steering column)

i would have to agree with molding one on either side of the cowl over the gauges...say out about 4" or so, slighty curving toward you...that woudl be super hot...be a bit tricky fishing wire and what not through there though...you would have to pre feed a wire/ coathanger in there before puting the cowl back on...but that would look sweet...
