Hello all, I am in need of some help. My 99 coug (RETURN STYLE) makes this really wierd BBBBLLLLLLLUUUUUURRRRRRRPPPPPPP noise when i hit the point where the secondaries are supposed to open. Dont know weather i should order a new IMRC or if something else is wrong. The noise is almost like a lower exhaust note on acceleration. please help.

You can check your IMRC pretty easily to see if it functions ... start your car. Then get out and under the hood ... reach up and pull your throttle on the TB. And watch to see if the IMRC is opening the secondaries. Anyway not sure how that would cause that noise. Unless maybe its sticking open funny then popping open? Have you ever cleaned your UIM and LIM? might be worth doing anyway.

Planning on cleaning mine this weekend when I put in the GMK CAI. I don't think it's been done, and it's at 58k. A good intake cleaning is always good. Either remove the TB and intake manifolds (make sure nothing falls into the cylinders!) and use TB cleaner, or seafoam-type stuff (just change the plugs afterwards!).

Sounds to me like your IMRC is stuck closed or your cat is clogged. Do you have good exhaust flow from the tailpipe? Feel it while somebody revs the engine.

ok checked the IMRC operation, it works however the linkage between the rear secondaries and the front had mysteriously become disconnected, sadly the square clip that holds the linkage in place is GONE. any body know where i can get one of these clips so my secondaries work properly? BTW the fronts were completly OPEN, this was causing the noise on acceleration.

Thnks :) I made it myself.
I'd say you can repair the IMRC linkage with an ordinary E-clip. Or, if not, you could have a chat with the parts counter at your Ford dealership. They can call up a diagram of the whole assembly, and you can point out exactly which part you need.

If you have an Advance Auto parts nearby, you can browse the aisle that has all the misc. fasteners...the brand is "Oops!"
There will be one pack that has a lot of tiny little clips and such in it. One of those fits perfect :)

not true. The clip is like $7 from Ford. I keep a spare in my glove box.
I'll try to remember to grab the part number in the morning and post it.
