A certain jilted hybrid owner (NOT YOU HENRY ) insists on taunting me daily about the fragility of my hybrid and promising me I'll be next to join Club Spun Bearing. I, on the other hand, would like to squeeze another 80k or so out of the Cougar before the engine goes boom.
From speaking with Ov3n, it seems like the hybrids primarily fail due to oil starvation. I've done some looking, but have yet to really find any hybrid owners running an Accusump kit such as the one BAT produces. I would assume this is for a reason, after all, the kit itself is but a few hundred dollars and would seem to be a tremendous value in protecting the thousands of dollars of time and money invested in building a hybrid.
So riddle me this Batman: Why isnt anyone using an Accusump on their hybrid?

Because I don't believe the hype about Hybrid's dying untimely deaths! Just keep oil in it, and you'll be oK!

I kept 6 quarts of Mobil One Synthetic in it. I even autoxed the car once with the 3.0L. If the bearing was to spin it would have happened then.
I would only do autoxing or road racing in a hybrid with 6.5 - 7 quarts of Mobil 1. I autocrossed my (Henry's) hybrid at CF2k5, and with 6.5 quarts in it, I had no trouble.
The accusump would be a good idea. I believe it goes in-line with the oil filter? You'd need to be able to supply pressurized oil to the main crank gallery in the event of pressure drop.

That sounds like a LOT of oil... could some damage result from that? For sure, you'd probably suck lots of it through the crankcase breather, or through the valve cover vents.
Accusump sounds like a great idea. Ox, install one, and let us know how it goes.

I'm thinking I will. Matt sent me a couple PM's reassuring me he did a solid build, and I don't for a second doubt that he did. But for a few hundred bucks, it seems like a very reasonable insurance device. Plus, I did major crunching of numbers on Version 2.0 (commencing as soon as I get my check in the mail ) and I came up way under budget, like I hit on everything I deemed necessary and was at 65% of budget. So, I have some cashy cash to play with.

Hey, could you make your sig a little bigger? I'm having a hard time reading it.

I would think that you would be in more danger in an extended high G turn. Basically, more like race track conditions/speeds. I wouldent think in a typical Auto-X situation you would ever be cornering long enough to run into probelms. Heck, you could be safe at any situation, but I am not knowledgeable enough to know.
Then again, no matter how unlikely you would have probs, is a bit of extra insurance a bad thing? Kind of like renters insurance, sure it costs some extra cash, and no one is likely to bust into the place/burn down etc, but its a comfortable feeling knowing that my possesions are covered if the stuff hits the fan.

While I think its agreed that the oval port oil drains are better, I think it has yet to be proven that the hybrids are inadequate. Some of the spun bearing issues could have been from lack of oil drain back OR zicon coming loose in the newer 3L's, or a multitude of other things. Its no uncommon to see hybrids put 50-80K miles with no issues. Myself I would do a oval port now ONLY because its cheaper to pnp heads then to convert the 2.5L valves to 3L ect.

I'll PM Trevor about that right now, sorry man.
Hey, who knows, maybe I could drive the car for ten years and be just fine with it. But I'm not purchasing the D2 coilover suspension, Roush sway bar and if I can find one of the bleepin things, an ST200 RSTB cuz I'm gonna be drivin Miss Daisy. She is my daily, and like the old saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Just so happens I have an ST200 RSTB for sale right now... PM me for details. It's not going cheap unfortunately...

I read up the whole accusump bit on BAT. Those with oil coolers would have it tapped through the block via a port instead. I'm interested in this as well.

yup, I'm another thats been planning on adding an accusump.
I'm doing it in the opposite order, I'm getting all the "extra-insurance" items before I add the power.

Probably a better idea than mine, but I didn't have any say in the matter. ;)
I've looked on Summit Racing, there's a Moroso oil accumulator kit that is $200 or so once you factor in the brackets you have to purchase. There is also an oil cooler on there, the name escapes me, that is $75, which was recommended by someone on CEG. When I get home tonight I can post up part numbers once I can search over on CEG.
