Well, I 'm seriously considering one of these vehicles. The Cougar has served me well, but I may move on.
Did anyone else catch a look at this thing? It is one sexy machine. I called the dealer today, and they are going to let me know when it arrives on the showroom floor.

Agreed. The worst part is the insurance on a car like that would prolly be just as much.
No wonder the manufacturers are in trouble. I remember so many times customers would have to back out of a deal cause they'd call their insurance up and be quoted more for the insurance then the cost of the bloody lease!!! And these were people with clean records.

I really like the look of that, wow! I'd never buy a "new" car though, it's simply not worth it.
I like it and would consider owning it, but I doubt my next car will be fwd.

exactly!
the next car we buy here, will be insured for my mom only because we just can't afford to keep us on BOTH cars - and my mom has just about 30 years of perfect driving! its nuts
and don't even get started on how much a brand new car depreciates in the first year!
Micah - since its a convertable, i'd guess its around 3500 - 3800lbs, but hey, a convertable is a fashion statement, not a performance one ;)

Looks pretty nice. I checked out the 2006 Eclipse and in person I wasn't impressed with it at all. The wheel gap on the stock suspension was just too big. The 06 non-convertibles weighed in at around 3500 lbs so I would assume these are even heavier.
Regarding new cars I would have to disagree with many of you. I recently purchased a brand Acura RSX-S and I don't regret it at all. The feeling you get when you own a car from day one, with 9km's on it is something else. I'm a perfectionist and it's nice to start off with something in "perfect" condition and covered by manufacturers warranties. Having experienced the joy of a brand new ride, I don't think I'll go back to used and abused rides. Nevertheless at the end of the day you have to make a decision that fits comfortably into your budget.

no no, you misunderstood...
its not that driving a new car is bad... driving away in a brand new, untouched car is awesome - its all yours, no abuse, the smell, all those good feelings.
Its that precise budget that you mentioned at the end there.
The rsx-s is still at the end of the day, is the acura integra replacement... its meant to fit the same budget and category as the cougar for the same kind of people - so thats not my issue.
That eclipse however, is marketed towards young adults between 20 - 30ish years old, right? How the HELL is 'the average' 20 - 30yr old going to shell out the money for a $35,000k+ car?
The loans or leases or whatever these people have must be insane! and I'm positive that half the people (who aren't rich) driving these nice cars... seriously can't afford it, so they end up paying it off for years and years and years.
They are probably the same people who live their life on a credit card... and thats scary.
I'm the kinda person who doesn't buy what they can't afford, so living in a constant debt scares me, and $35,000 is a pretty deep hole...

I tend to agree. Not into debt, and car's are pretty expensive. Guess you just gotta work hard, eh? And make smart decisions about what little money you do have.... There's a lot more value in a used car (1-2 years old), than in a brand new car.

I agree with the fact that you do get better value out of a previously enjoyed automobile. (Low mileage, new model year) However, like Hammad said, owning your own vehicle from the beginning is a great feeling.
Basically, my next vehicle is going to be exactly what I want. A fully loaded convertible. So far, this vehicle is the biggest spot on my radar.
I guess it helps that my insurance just went way down.

I just remembered....aren't we getting the Evo in 2007? Now that's a Mitsubishi. Pretty sure that's my next car...yeah.

Unless I had tons of Cash, and by that I mean not even asking or caring what the price is. I wouldn'd buy a new car. The money you lose just signing the papers is unreal. Buy a car and then try to sell it back to a dealer and see what they will give you for it.
Now in a perfect world this would be my next car.

If the though of dropping 35gs in a car come to mind, i say i would probably drive a bmw 3 series before paying that kind of money for that POS. Im stuck on bmws and as soon as i can afford it, im going back to them.

lol... an elise could drive circles around any kind of bmw...
besides, they are two completely different animals. the lotus is a track car, a 3 series bmw is a daily driver sedan...

Cool... Now that I look around, I just decided on something else:
Pontiac Solstice GXP! FORGET the G35 I was going to get.
http://www.caranddriver.com/assets/image/l_182006201447.jpg
From Car and Driver.com
At the Los Angeles show, Pontiac rolled out the production version of the oft-rumored high-performance Solstice, the Solstice GXP. Investors on Wall Street might be giving GM the cold shoulder, but that doesn't seem to be stopping a performance resurgence at GM. The primary difference between the regular-grade Solstice and the GXP version is the engine. The GXP gets a direct-injection turbocharged and intercooled 2.0-liter engine that is expected to put out 260 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. If that holds true, the engine will make more horsepower per liter (130) than any other GM production engine ever. The five-speed manual and the optional five-speed automatic carry over from the base Solstice as do the disc brakes. The extra hardware that the turbo engine requires adds about 100 pounds to the roadster, with Pontiac claiming a 0-to-60 time of less than 5.5 seconds. Although pricing was not released, we expect the turbocharged Solstice to command a $5000 premium over the base $20,490 car when it goes on sale in the fall.
Obviously, this thing is HOT. And check out how this thing looks with a bit of cosmetic work!

Done and DONE! MMMMmmmmmMMMM! 260hp! in THAT little thing? Can't wait...
