I know theres a registry for this, but I'd like to see a "checklist" of things and how much you spent for what you did. Will be a good resource for individuals that are looking to see the details of everyones builds for future reference.

or maybe an update to the ones stickied already on top of the section. another stickied 3l faq would be good.

I hope to get my CSVT 3.0 swap done in the next month and will take the time to sumarize. First thoughts are the 2.5/3.0 hybrid may have been cheaper.

It boils down to this for people that can do it themselves.

Engine ($300-700)
Bearings & gaskets ($300)
Misc supplies (porting, oil, lube, etc) ($200)

That's about $1000 for a fresh 3L.

Anything more then that is modifications to a simple 3L engine swap. Those can range from free to thousands of dollars depending on what it is and if you are paying someone else for it.

I left out people that can not do their own swap labor because that adds countless variables that spiral the price skyward. I'd guesstimate $1500+ for all labor required to rebuild the engine and R&R them. "Shop" prices would likely double that labor estimate.

Approximates of what I have paid:

$650 for 04 Escape engine (correct oil pan and pickup) with 19K miles that wasn't refreshed. This may appear to be contrary to popular opinion, but I (and my fellow car club members) am/are against breaking seals when unneccessary. I'm willing to take the "risk". This point is not up for discussion in this thread, let's stick to tech.

$1150 for PnP heads for ease of installation of upper SVT stuff

$650 for gaskets, head bolts, clutch, pressure plate, slave cylinder, control arms, axle seals, DPFE hoses, thermostat, coolant hoses that had to be cut to remove, crankshaft pulley bolt (already had DMD)

$25 in consumables (cut off wheels, valve cover paint, exhaust paint)

$75 for fluids (brake, power steering, motor oil, transmission fluid, Prestone, water wetter, camshaft lube, threadlocker, antisieze, RTV sealant)

$75 for an alignment

$100 for beer, food for helpers

Me only: $75 for shifter cables because I forgot to unbolt the bracket; ~$50 for the Vehicle Speed Sensor that evidently got messed up upon reinstallation.

What this gets me: an easy-to-put-together engine that should be fairly stout when I turn the key.

Stealthy,

Where you at? I just happen to have a freshly built 3L, complete, for sale momentarily. It's in the Toronto area.

Massiv.

My goal is straight 3L with svt cams and ihe bolt ons, tell me a little bit about it. Im not sure what I could offer you, because I was relying on the summer to make most of the money for the build.. I have about 1600 to burn at the moment.

The one pic that you don't have is of the "ear" on the back left of the engine, about halfway up the transmission mating surface, that interferes with the CSVT oil cooler. Natch, if you ain't got one, you ain't gotta worry about it.
