The zx2 has VCT on the exhaust cam, the cougar/focus zetec's do not. So I don't think that the head will work.

i was planning using a set of cams from zx2ner.com, with the vct delete and a sct tune. if i do that i should be about use any zetec head wouldnt i?

isnt our VCT on the exhaust cam...isnt that why you cant use the adjustable gears on the exhaust side...

anyway the guy to ask about fitment would probably be fearthisescort...

as far as i know the zx2 is the same as ours though..i would be more concerned with cooling paths through the block and head meeting up then bolt ups...cause i think they are pretty universal bolt up wise..

i think ness has the ford racing head that is made for a focus, thats why i was wondering about the zx2. im looking for one to get pnp'd but the local junk yards dont have any cougars, but zx2's are everywhere.

Check out TeamZX2 (http://www.teamzx2.com) for lots of information about the zx2. Maybe they could help:shrug:

All Cougar Zetecs have VCT. Odds are a ZX2 head with VCT will also work. My coworker has a Escort and it's engine looks exactly the same as ours minus the intake stuff and exhaust manifolfs.

i thought that there where some earlier cougars with no VCT...but i am pretty sure it is on the exhaust cam...is that right seawulf?

mosoblkcougar: im already on teamzx2 asking the question. thanks anyway

seawulf: i have compared the cougar zetec to pictures of the zx2 zetec, and from what i see, the engine itself looks identical.

crazyoldcougar: vct wouldnt matter if i was going with aftermarket cams, vct delete, and a sct tune to get rid of the cel, would it?

Any VCT head will bolt up, as will a non VCT head (but good luck getting it to run)

ok so im gonna use a zx2 head. if i use the vct delete they have a zxtuner.com and have a chip programed to over look the missing vct, would i still have trouble with it running?

Hey james, there is a VCT delete kit for sale on ebay right now for $10 with $5 shipping. Not sure if thats a good deal or not just thought I'd tell ya. Search VCT SVT and you should find it.

The main thing about deleting the VCT is if you don't also get a chip it will trip a cell and put the ECU into limp mode and it will run crappy.

sct will be used to get rid of that. ive heard alot of people on teamzx2 say that bamachips.com can do pretty good mail order programs. all i have to do is list whats wanted and not wanted, mail it to them and they make a program for me. that should hold me over until i decided to get on a dyno.

WRONG!!!!!!!!! but partly true..

Yes any VCT head will mount up to yall's cars. but i have ran a ported focus head on my ZX2 before. all u have to do is get SCT tunning, and set the cam sensor to degree 0.
