View Full Version : Calling out all Hockey players

So the stereotype for all you canucks is that each and every one of you have played at some level in Ice hockey. Everyone here talks about those damn Leafs and Senators, but now I say it's time to show what YOU can do on the rink. Post up if you play, and let's see if we can get a game together. Typically I'd like a canucks vs yanks game but I think i'm way out numbered here.

I'm gonna have to find me some equipment, but i'm game.

Nitrik
12-20-2005, 01:36 PM
Yeah, I'd have to scrounge around for some equipment also. It's been a while since I've played "real" hockey. In the nice months we have I play a lot of road hockey with my buddies. And then in the winter I go and play at a friends cottage on his pretty good sized pond...but it's only a friendly pickup game with no equipment.

I played 10 years of ice hockey for A and AA, so you all better watch out

It would be no hitting, so no worries there. I haven't played ice in over 4 years, but I do play roller hockey every Friday. I did however play into college, made the team and couldn't play for financial reasons. I'm no slouch, just fat and outta shape lol.

I played from 3 years old until I was about 15. I played AAA for the Vaughan Rangers. I was a pretty good goalie.

Now? Who knows. Its been almost 10 years since i've played competitive hockey.

I used to play street hockey a lot, I was the goalie but I never used rollerblades. I went ice skating once but that was seven years ago. I couldn't (and probably still can't) skate very well, but at least I didn't fall down. However, I did knock Angie on her ass, it was one of our first dates, lol.

If we actually do go ahead with this, it doesnt matter if you're any good. Just come out, strap on some equipment and have a little fun.

i'llplay depending on location and time....

well time isnt a biggy so long as i dont have to spend the night anywhere...i cant afford that..but definately up for a good old bonding game of padded shinny..

i played all through University...only intramural though..nothing overly organised..but we all knew what we were doing..that was a couple moons ago though too...

i just bought new helmet amd shoulder pads anticipating playing some pick up this year though...DAMN i hope my skates still fit...lol

If we have a date set, then we can start getting organized.

Iceotron
12-22-2005, 09:03 AM
first and foremost...what rinks are available, when and cost?

crazyoldcougar
12-22-2005, 09:18 AM
are we thinking rinks in Toronto?
Hamilton?
St Catherines?
Niagra?
London? <---i think that would be as far as i would drive..
very dependant on weather too...i wont be going anywhere in a crazy ass storm in my kitty with bald ass tires..lol (i would buy snows if i could afford them) but i cant forked out about 3500 in general maintenance alone last month..still have to do my tie rod ends before the weekend too..they are getting a bit loose now...(or should i say when i brake hard my car swerves from one side to the other...no fun braking from 120)

maybe some member in those respective cities could look into rink availability...

hamill
12-23-2005, 04:56 PM
I haven't skated in at least 10 years. I use to play hockey every weekend and road hockey nightly. I just got back on rollerblades this past summer...that was bad enough...I can skate fine....just can't stop lol.

road hockey though....I KNOW I can still shoot :)

Moraki
12-23-2005, 09:02 PM

Ive only played road hockey myself... Ice time down here isnt cheap or common :( But i make a decent defensemen.

You can count me in on this...I didn't sign up for the mens league I usually played in over the past couple of years cause I wasn't anticipating still being in Toronto this winter...I'm dyin to get out on the ice and humm a few pucks. South Fletcher in Brampton is a good rink, Ice Sports in Scarborough, and various others in the GTA.

Lets see who's all in and go from there, so we can kinda figure out whats the best location.

ONe stipulation....I'm on Mike's team...I don't want him hackin at my legs when I'm parked in front of the net! Thanks for the heads up buddy. :cover:

Ron/Jenny -->haven't heard anything from you guys about this topic. Jenny, i know you're probably the biggest hockey fan out there, you gotta be there. Let us know.

Jan 14-15 (good for me)
Jan 21-22 (good for me)
Jan 28-29 (good for me)

Okay, here's the deal.

Some co-workers and I are getting together to play on Saturday, January 7 at 11:00 pm.

I rented ice already, so the more people that would like to come out the better. It looks like it will be about $10 per person (goalies don't pay).

IF ANYONE PLAYS GOAL, PLEASE COME OUT!!!

Anyhow, there are all levels of skill, and it's a great time! One of the guys is going to ref I think (call goals, etc.) so it should be a good time.

So again, it's at Iroquois Park Complex, Whitby. http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&searchtab=home&formtype=address&popflag=0&latitude=&longitude=&name=&phone=&cat=&address=500+Victoria+Street+West&city=Whitby&state=On&zipcode= on Saturday, January 7 at 11:00 pm.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call my cell at 905-999-2482.

Thanks, Lance

Maybe a dumb question.....Why have we chosen London as a potential location when 3/4 of the people that say they're coming are located in the GTA?

Why not pick something on the North/East end of Toronto. That way it’s kinda in the middle for the majority of people.

Ajay’s downtown
Lance is out in Oshawa
Nigel’s in the K/W area
There’s a few Barrie people
Then you've got Dan and Cliff out west in London and Matt out east in Ottawa
And Ken and Carl would have a couple hours of driving but they’ve been up that way many times…..

Just my thoughts.

I was contemplating coming out but was waiting to see how the knee was holding up after snowboarding. Bottom line is my knee is still only up for a max of 3hrs of riding and I'm not risking it on anything else.

I may still come out and hammer back a few beers in the stands though...

I'm gonna have to agree. Take a look at Maya's list (good idea, btw ;)) and you'll notice that most of the people are located alot closer to the GTA.

I dont think London would be beneficial to anyone, except maybe for people coming from Windsor/Michigan and so far theres noone coming from there...

Chesswood
21st - is not available
28th - told me some times they USUALLY have rent out the ice and told me to call back during regular business hours and talk to another guy. (I called at 4:30!!?! I thought normal business hours were until 5?)

Vaughan Iceplex
The guy here was so sweet and was willing to deal.
21st - after 8:30 PM cost 175/hour
- 11:45AM-12:45 PM - $200 plus GST
22nd - 8:45 - 10:45 AM
- 7:45 - 9:45 PM
- Either time he said he would deal and cut prices and taxes
28th - 3:15 - 4:15 - $200
- 6:15 - 7:45 - Also willing to deal

Thats all I have so far....

so we grab some grub before we go!
well since it is non contact i am up for that...i am sure there has to be a pub nearby a rink somewhere...

another added bonus to eating before playing is i dont have to smell my equipement on the way home on a full stomach...hehhe
i know that undershirt in there that i havent washed since university smells pretty darn good...:puke:

i might just change it out for a new one before we met though...lol:biggrin:

so is it going to be the last weekend in Jan or the first in Feb?

Okay got some more prices...

Memorial Gardens (in Brampton)
$191 - Peak time
$121 after 11pm
I don’t yet know what’s available. I have to call a different # for City of Brampton Parks and Rec and I'm just getting Voicemail.

Called some others but had nothing available on Saturdays…

11-1 on feb 4 would be good for me...good thing about that is that most rinks close after that and sometimes they give you extra ice time too...find out if that includes a flood too...2 hours on the ice is like playing in a corn field..lol
