I got this email recently, if anyone is interested check it out:

Dear Automotive Enthusiast:

Plans are underway to introduce an important piece of legislation in Florida, which would be of great benefit to the automotive hobby. Based on a model bill written by SEMA, the legislation would establish separate titling and registration classes for street rods and custom vehicles. The bill would provide special license plates for qualifying vehicles and exempt them from periodic inspections and emissions tests. It would also allow non-original vehicles, such as kit cars and replicas, to be registered with the same model year as the production vehicle it most closely resembles. Your help is needed to get this signed into law.

When the bill is officially introduced and hearings are scheduled, the SEMA Action Network (SAN) will send out e-mail Action Alerts urging individuals and car clubs to contact their state legislators in Tallahassee. You can receive this up-to-date information, with no cost or obligation, by joining the SAN.

In recent years, the SAN and its members have achieved victories across the country on a wide range of issues, including registration classifications, emissions-test exemptions, equipment standards, and vehicle scrappage or “clunker” laws. United together automotive hobbyists are a proven political force. You and your fellow club members can help make a difference by joining the SAN!

To join, or for additional information about the Street Rod and Custom Vehicle Bill, visit the SAN website at www.semasan.com or feel free to contact me at (202) 783-6007, ext. 39 or by e-mail at jasont@sema.org. If you are already a member of the SAN, we would simply like to encourage you to pass along this information to other members of your club.

Sincerely,
Jason Tolleson
Director, SEMA Action Network

Hey Murphy can you explain that....for some reason I don't understand it. Maybe I've been in Kentucky too long :banghead:

I think this is stupid.. Say you have a Fiero with Lambo kit, you'd be able to have it registered as a Lambo? :ugh: :ugh: :ugh:

That's what I seemed to get out of it....that's why I wasn't sure if I understood it or not :banghead:

but on the flipside, if you have a car that is customized it seems to say you are not going to be penalized for any modifications, ie exhaust, engine mods. it is interesting.

Some tool" yeah my lamborgini (fiero) is really cool, it's an authentic 88 Lamborgini" god what about civics with bmw head lights and crap. this could be really interesting.

Yeah, I guess it will make shopping for used exotic cars more interesting  .

I thought Florida didn't have inspections and emissions, so I am a bit confused about how this bill would exempt qualifying cars from those if htey aren't required anyway. Unless this varies from county to county and I'm just not aware of it?

Anyway, of more pressing relevance to most of us is the new sound ordinance. Just to give everyone a heads up, Florida now has one of the strictest policies in the nation. The previous law was that if your stereo could be clearly heard from 100 ft away you could be issued a citation. The new law is from only 25 ft away. I forget the exact fine amount but I think it was around $90. This is ridiculous, stock radios can be clearly heard from 25 ft away!

:bs:

edit: Where the hell was SEMA on preventing this legislation?

They are gettn way out of hand with this. Just another way to get more money out of everyone. The fines are already gone up enough.

That sucks :(.

Murphy I think it's the entire state that doesn't have emissions. I was actually woried about it when I moved up here, cause Kentucky used to have them....not anymore

Two pages and everyone missed the point.

The letter and intent of the law isn’t to allow vehicles built on existing platforms to be titled as other vehicles. It’s to allow kit cars with no original title or VIN of their own to be classified as the vehicle they are modeled after.

Specifically this law is targeted at kit cars like ’32 Ford roadsters are Shelby Cobras. Both of which are difficult and costly to come by in original form but can be ordered as complete kits minus engine and transmission for as little as $10,000. In most states if these vehicles as classified by the year they were made and required to conform to current safety and emission regulations. Florida’s law would allow a Cobra kit built in 2005 to be only held to the standards and regulations of the model year in which it was designed after.
