I have my iPod hooked up into my car and looking for a good way to keep it out of the way but easy to reach. I have a idea, that I think is good. If I put a magnet under my headliner on the angled part of the roof just before my dome light, then the other part of the magnet on the back of the iPod do you think it would stay there?
If this isn't clear enough I will try to get a picture or explain myself better.

I wouldn’t advise attaching a powerful magnet to a device that contains a hard drive.

well the magnet would be on the clip of the holder so it wouldn't really be connected, ya know.

Use a cell phone holder. Unless you have the huge one. I have a nano so...

Funny thing about magnets...they don't need to be "connected" to something to do damage to a hard drive. Remember those fun experiments in grade school with iron filings and magnetic "fields"? I think TDK's concern is valid, and I'd look for another way.

I don't own a ipod, but if I did, here is what I would try to do.
1. try to mount it where you ash tray is if you don't use it. (make a holder out of fiberglass or wood that I would take out of the consel and attach to the ash tray by a screw or velcro)
2. try to mount it in my visor by cutting part of the visor away (hot gluing or sewing the edge).
3. try to put it in my consel.
4. cut away a piece from the dash and make a cover for when I was not using it.
5. Mount it in my steering wheel.
Just some ideas if you wanted to get a little more complicated. If not I would use a cell phone clip and would highly recommend not using a magnet.

Do you have the cup holder or cup spiller? If you have the holder (the one that sits down IN the console, not flips out above it), that makes a perfect holder for all kinds of crap (cell phone, iPod, walkie talkie, etc.).
ProClip (http://www.proclipusa.com)
this place will sell a cougar-specific vehicle mount, plus an ipod mini-specific device mount.
This mounts on the dash right next to the radio, it just clips on next to the radio.
Looks very clean and is of high quality. Keeps the ipod out of the way.
not cheap, but the least-ghetto option.
