Okay, so I bought a spiffy new shifter today. I go home to take off the original one and the screw set is completely stripped. 100% smooth. I go to Home Depot and get the guys there to help me work on it, no such luck. NOTHING is working on this. Any ideas?

drill it out or cut it off.

Okay, I drilled it. Got the screw out. Now I can't get the damned shifter off. I've pulled and twisted and done everything in the book. Not budging.

DO NOT TWIST IT, it is not meant to twist [other wise it is going to continually wiggle after you reinstall it].

and be carefull when your pulling it, there are over drive wires in there, if you pull too hard you are going to snap them when it finally pulls out.

Well, crap. How can I get it off then?

get a gear puller from autozone or pepboys or wherever. its the same thing as a steering wheel puller, it should work. just pull STRAIGHT UP!!!

When you remove the shifter knob how is the overdrive switch connected. I am worried I may damage it when I remove the knob.

I just yanked straight up as hard as I could knowing that I'd F-up the overdrive wires. The shifter popped right off. take the 2 hanging wires from the O/D button as it's useless and just tape them off somewhere so they don't touch anything and forget about them.

As for a replacement shifter, I bought a $20 standard ATX replacement shifter that I liked the looks and feel of and it fit perfectly fine. It has 3 set screws so you could size it to whatever you want. I've had it for 2 years and I still love the look and feel of it. Momo is WAAAYYY overpriced.

This shows the 2 inside diameters side by side.

He prob did it himself. It's quite a common mod.
Here is a piccie of mine which I have now sold on because I don't think the straight edges flow with the curves of the dashboard. That and the fact you cant see anything when it's sunny !
