well i have looked and not found an answer for this one yet...
could anyone who has painted, removed, replaced or done anything to the Passenger side air bag tell me how much open space is under the cover and where that space is....
to say...if i wanted to drill a couple holes into it or screw something down to it, is there a safe place to do so with out puncturing the airbag, or impeding its opperation...?
from all the pics posted of the opened airbags i cant tell a thing...the airbag seems to fill the entire space...but i am sure this is not the case...

You cant mount anything on the air bag b/c if it was to deploy it would blow what was ever on it into the passenger which equals a lot of problems.

doesnt the gauge pod from cc install over the passenger air bag, or does it have to be removed to install the gauge pod?

i think you have to remove it to make the gauges work anyway

Yeah it would look cool and all dude but its definantly not safe
My advice would be to find another place in the car to mount whatever it is you are trying to mount. i know that might suck  but its all good  :puke:

i dont see how whatever is stuck on top of the airbag cover would be thrown toward the passenger....the cover flips up toward the windshield..there is a chance that said objects would bounce off the windshield and then deflect toward passenger...but not likely (explosive force of the airbag would smash it through the windshield)
if objects on the cover hit the passenger then why doesnt the cover itself hit the passenger??
and who's to say you're not taking a drink or rubbing your eye when said airbag goes off...there is just as much risk..lol
anyway...back on topic...i just want to know if anyone has pictures...
thanx for the concerns guys...i am well aware of the dangers

While i agree with you that placing things on top the air bag shouldnt impeed the bag, since it does flip up, If the screw you were using were to go though the back side and leave a sharp point, it would probably tear the air bag open as it deployed, making it useless. /run on sentence off

that is exactly why i want to see a picture of some sort of the bottom of the cover adn where the airbag attaches to see IF there is a SAFE PLACE to drill or screw into..i would obviously cover the underside of the screws to prevent tearing...

Nobody??
I am hardly the guy to promote safety...but seriously do NOT mount ANYTHING on, in front of, near a functional airbag. Hell, don't even rest a Jesus bobblehead near one. You might think you know what would happen to anything you might place there, but you don't know for sure. And impaling your passenger with a temp gauge in a fender bender is no way to see if your theory is correct.
Your best bet is to disable your passenger airbag all together, then do whatever you want to the dash. Having no airbag is a thousand times safer than having something mounted on or in front of it. Have you ever seen an airbag deploy in person? Not a pretty picture.
And for all those do-gooders out there who will talk about how dangerous not having an airbag is, may I ask you what people should do with cars that were never equipped with one? My Mustang has no airbags, it has a solid plastic dash bolted to a steel rod. No air bags?....that's what seat belts are for.
Just my opinion....and if your passenger ends up with AUTOMETER stamped backwards on their forehead...don't blame me.
Or you could mount something in the front of the dash, well out of the way of the airbag...but still in front of the passenger. But that would make no sense...unless you want to spend every trip turning to your passenger every ten seconds and asking "What do my volts look like?".

it is for a member who wants to mount a LCD there...he has told me he will be disabling the airbag...but i would still like pictures if that is possible..
