I bought a set of valve covers a little while ago with plans to get them powdercoated. In the last couple days i was thinking about just try to paint them first and see how they turn up. Today i clean them up nice and was trying to think if i should maybe lightly sand them with sand paper to make them rough then primer them or just go straight to primer...... What do u think???

hit them with a high grit, like 600. Scuff and clean the surface. Then primer, and wetsand a few coats of that. Then the color of your choice plus clear. Or you just use engine enamel?

Understand that painted valve covers will be a bit more susceptible to scratches than powdercoated ones.
You would also need to get high temp paint as the valve covers do get very hot.
Best of luck!

You've got them off....I'd just have them powdercoated. Mine turned out awesome, and I just had a local guy do it.
