i bought mtangs car that has a full 3L escape w/UIM & TB .

I want to switch over to the taurus 3L UIM so I can get a CF hood (weight reduction for autox). Will the taurus UIM clear the valve covers since ive read that they are taller?

Are the TB the same from escape to taurus? I want to hook the cruise control back up so i think i need the taurus TB for the cruise cable. Escape is fly by wire i believe.

And will the egr tube from the taurus work with the weapon r headers that are on there or will it need slight modification like usual

The taurus UIM is actually shorter... It clears everything...
If the coil pack right now is in the stock location and if it fits (rear valve cover) you are more than likely to have the taurus UIM already... The escape in my experience didn't clear the rear coil pack...

I don't know about 2005 model years for escapes but 2004's weren't fly by wire...

Plug the EGR chip it and call it a day

its a full 2003 escape motor, and cant plug the egr (it all ready is) cause i need to pass emissions. failing due to lack of monitors for egr, oxygen, oxyheat, and evap. Chip shuts off all the emissions stuff, waiting to hear back from ADC to see if i can get around this

All the 3L's I've built recently have been using the sable/taurus intake manifolds. They fit under the hood of a contour perfectly. I'm not sure about the Cougar yet. I thought the escape's were taller not the sable/taurus intakes. Cruise control is not an easy hook up. Most of the cars I've done don't have cruise hooked up. To make it work like normal you'd have to use a SVT bracket and cutup and reweld the cruise control hookup on the bracket so it sits closer to the TB otherwise it will hold the throttle open.

EGR tube will not work no matter what. Cut and reweld it. I've heard of people bending them to work with stock manifolds but then you have a butt load of extra piping bent up that gets in the way. Just cut it and weld it so it's done right. If you can get it positioned correctly it shouldn't take more than 5 mins for a welder to weld it. I bring mine to a shop near me and they do it for free because it takes almost no time to do it.

jason, is there really a reason you would need cruise control in that car?

and I assume your looking for a CF hood rather than fiberglass. if you plan on painting it, it wouldnt be too hard to mold a similar scoop into it [in cf].

[lol, and good luck on the emissions, theres no way I could have ever gotten that thing past inspections here]

If you are using 3L heads you need to use the 3L LIM, 3L fuel rail and 3L UIM unless you port the heads to match the 2.5L intakes. If you port the heads you can use all the 2.5L parts.

Im wanting to stay with the 3l UIM. The car runs fine now, other than some chip issues.

Im looking to get a kam or oem cf hood on it. gonna paint part of the cf but not all of it so i cant add a scoop cause it show up

You can't change from a 3L intake manifold to a 2.5L intake manifold. Well unless you are using a aluminum 3L intake in which case you would have an older 3L engine or ported heads. With an oval port 3L you'd need to pull the heads off the car (remove the engine) and have them ported to switch to the 2.5L intake.

I dont want to change from a 3L to a 2.5. Just need the taurus intake for the lower height than the escape intake.

Just making sure so other people don't get confused. You didn't specify in your post. :)

lety m e know on the TB . shouldn't the cables from the escape work on the sable TB? since they are already modified to work with the cougar?
