Looking to do a 3L swap with the oval port to match the 2.5 manifolds. Wondering if any of the 3L pros here could suggest a certain block and year for me. I'm looking for something less prone to the zircon failure. I know it was a problem in some of the years. hoping someone here did a good share of research and could help me out.

avoid 2002 escape engine to avoid zircon.

Actually it's late MY 2003 and 2004 3L Duratecs, mainly Escape/Tribute, that are suspect to contamination.

I justed checked my notes. I was close.

They started making it out in the early 2003 MY vehicles. Escapes/Tributes semm to have the higher risk factor.

BTW early 2003 MY means blocks cast fall quarter 2002.
