View Full Version : Humming noise from front passenger wheel.
I have this humming noise when the steering wheel is turned to the right coming from the front passenger wheel. I had the wheel bearing replaced, along with new rotors and brakes because my brakes were digging into my rotor on the same wheel. I don't know if this problem made my brakes do that. I recently rotated my tires and I get the same noise so it isn't a bad tire. My power steering fluid is good. At high speeds the noise is so loud it sounds like I have a 5.0 under the hood. What could be wrong?

Wheel bearing is gone again. I replaced mine and a month later it was worse than before. Did you replace just the bearing or the bearing and hub. My hub was so worn the bearing was spinning on the hub and the rotor was rubbing on the caliper bracket. What a mess that was.
Yeah I just replaced the one wheel bearing. The bearing still has to be good because it was replaced just a few days ago. I'm going to have to get the hub replaced because it must be worn. Is that a dealer part or can I get one elsewhere?

sometimes the noise can be deceiving....I thought it was the passenger side and it ended up being the drivers side. Oh well I got two new bearings now.

Yeah, as far as wheel bearings go, the rule of thumb is: if it groans when you turn RIGHT, the LEFT bearing is bad, and vice versa.
When turning right, the right wheel is unloaded a little, and much of the car's weight goes onto the LEFT wheel for cornering. The extra weight causes the wheel bearing on that side to complain.
Sounds to me like you replaced the wrong wheel bearing.
My mechanic usually tells me if something is bad and he didn't mention the hub so I guess I'll have him snap in a new drivers side bearing. They're only $40. But the sound is definately coming from the front pass side wheel.
