My cougar is an ATX with a CAI, exhaust, and a 75 shot vs. a stock 2001 VW Passat 1.8T 4 door. In a heads up race who would win, with or without spray??? The thing is the passat has 34K on it, but the his parents have been putting 87 in it the whole time which i feel is killing the turbo. Let me know what u think the outcome would be.

With a 75 shot of N2O you would cream the VW. Without spray, you would be very close, or might lose by a little bit.
VW 1.8T

Horsepower (hp @ rpm): 170 @ 5,900
Torque (lb-feet @ rpm): 166 @ 1,950-5,000

0 - 60 Acceleration (sec): 8.2
1/4 Mile (sec @ mph): 16.3@87.3

Cougar runs a 16.0 with an MTX. You are ATX - so it is considerably higher.

The 2001 VW Passat 1.8T specs:

Curb Weight: 3043 lbs

Engine Size: 1.8L

Number of Cylinders: Inline 4

Camshaft Double overhead cam (DOHC)

Horsepower 150 hp @ 5700 rpm

Torque 155 ft-lbs @ 1750 rpm

Acceleration
(0-60 mph in seconds) 8.4

But there is a model called New GLS which puts out"

Horsepower: 170 hp @ 5900 rpm

Torque: 166 ft-lbs @ 1950 rpm

Acceleration
(0-60 mph in seconds) 8.2

So i kind of depends on which model too! Race him and you will know who will win!

There's a much better way to find out the answer to this question - JUST DO IT

The internet is a PITA to find accurate specifications on a car. What site(s) do you usually go to?

The Passat is way too heavy for that little 1.8 to move it very well. Your automatic Cougar should run a mid-to-high 16 second quarter, but you have a great top end. The 1.8 runs out of boost up there.

I'd say quarter-mile = about even; Freeway = all Merc.

They are great for a general-purpose car, and a commuter. They are pretty much working as hard as they can in stock trim, though, so to get any good power, you gotta upgrade.

You would have a decent chance at a passat 1.8t, same with a golf or jetta as long as they are auto. Also there are 2 types of 1.8t's One come with 150hp and the other has 180hp (for the jetta and golf atleast, not sure about the passat)

i raced a turbo jetta a few weeks back and beat him by about 1 and a half cars, but mine is a stick though with a superchip. my old cougar which was also a 99 was an ATX and i ran mid 17's in that thing stock! so he might beat ya if it a stick, i know from experience that the ATX cougars without anything modded to them are sllllloooowwww! but you got spray so you'll prolly take him
