Well, I've been doing an overnight job as a part-time employee with a shift of 10pm to 6am. Quite recently they have adopted a policy that punishes the part-timers if they leave at 6am if there is any work left to be done. Be it 5 min. or 5 hrs. the punishment is the same written repremand on your file. If enough wright-ups are accumulated, termination will be used. I have alway stayed the average 30 min. extra to help out (unless I had plans) mostly because I can get some extra pay. But since finding out about this policy, I have felt frustrated that I am requred to do the job description and requriements of a Full-time employee, just with out the compensation there of. I also can not belive that a company can force such edicts with out proper compensation. To quantify our overtime, it's like most places where one must work more than 40 hrs. in a week for "time and a half". The part-timers at this company don't often have the ability to work more than 32 hrs. a week, making overtime next to impossible. I just want to b*slap someone in management for this brilliant piece of work. And of course the full-time employees are elated by this since it means they get extra help.
*ugh*
well thanks for the vent spot, and any input would be welcome.

Yeah, Where I work there are only 37 full timers vs 160 part timers, I feel sorry for those guys and girls that have to work late but just up to 32 hours, so they can't get overtime. They all seem happy though:)

I had a overnight security job where I worked from 10-6 to get mods for the coug. I loved that job. A long time ago I worked at a telemarketing firm and was put under the same type of stress. So I can feel for ya man. Good luck.

Sorry about your job. That really sucks. Is there any way you can move to a different dept?? Where do you work?

To answer a few questions:
talking with the supervisors would be a moot point as they were in the decision making process.
If I did move to a different department, I would loose my pay bonus for working overnight. I don't enjoy this job at my current pay rate and I would loathe any other job they have open and detest they pay rate of their day-timers. My taking this job was out of necessity not choosing. If I did leave my overnight position, I would seek a different employer.
As to which company, I will say that It is a grocery store. In all ways except for this policy, I belive that this company is a decent one to work for, and I don't want to give it a bad rep. They have been more than willing to flex my schedule to my needs and negotiate on some other topics, so they aren't BAD to work for but not great.
honestly I didn't think a company could legally do that! I mean... it's just wrong to punish people for working the hours they are scheduled.
Any who, I might put up with them for a month or so longer until school rolls 'round again.
