Has anyone ever bought a car from the US?
Just wondering what Taxes and Fees you have to pay to bring a car over the border. What forms do you have to fill out, things like that?
Let me know,
Thanks

I'm pretty sure you have to pay the GST on the value you paid for the car or the "book" value (whichever is higher. You also will have to pay a bit of $$ for the inspection. My buddy has imported 5-6 cars from the US and told me it's just taxes.

Thanks Dan,
I found this over on the GTAMC site:
This is the process I used.
phone 905-875-4700, to ask questions they can point you in the correct direction. (I think the guys name was Jason)..
Call the registrars office of imported vehicles : 1-888-848-7240 ( to see if the car is allowed in canada)
> Fax US customs Detroit the ownership of the car you are buying: 313-442-0200, they need 72 hours notice before you reach the border.
> Appraisal for tax purposes if its over 10 years old. You pay 8% tax
> $100 for AC if the car has it
> $180 some fed govt bs fee,
> Permit from the state you are getting the car from lets you drive it all over the states.
> At the border you get another permit to drive within canada for 45 days.
In Canada you need to get the car changed over to Canadian standards, daytime running lights and a sticker for the odometer saying miles not KM. Then you can get it certified and e-tested. (Make sure the vehicle door sticker is on the door, the one with bar codes, or else you'll have a heck of a tome getting certified at one of the few import staions around. Crappy Tire does this.)
Good Luck!

My first car was my grandfather's in the US so I had to bring it over the border. Cost me about $450 at that time ( oh, like 13 years ago! )
