I have 30k on my cougar. My dad tells me that I need to have the transmission fluid flushed. Someone at work told me that transmissions should never be flushed unless there is a problem. Suggestions?

Yeah, i would do it now.... Its it a MTX or ATX? There are how-to's for both trans, just search.

I second the recommendation for a flush, particularly if it is an ATX. Aging fluid creates more heat in transmission operation which further degrades the fluid and ultimately the transmission. While many folk change at 50k my experience with fords encourages me to do it at 30k unless you have a separate cooler. Then 50k is fine.
