ok i don't condone street racing at all and i hardly ever do it. unless instigated. on an empty road. well tonite it seemed like all the muscle cars and such were out tonite. well im just cruising down hempstead turnpike and some kid in an 80s mustang roars up next to me so i look ahead and see practically no one in front of us so i say what the hell and race him from id say 40 to like 70. i stayed dead even with them till i shut down not wanting to get to carried away. well he keeps going till like i don't know 90 or so and cuts off this minivan by inches. so after that i thought it would have been my fault if he hit them cause i engaged him to race. so i felt i had my fun so enough. i turn onto the seaford oyster bay heading south and a black srt4 flies by me right after the entrance ramp so i gun it to see what she could do. well it smelled like i was makin an omlet in my front seat from the cat converter and she wont rev past like 4000. so as you could imagine i couldn't keep up at all. i was kinda mad. well very mad really. but i mean i cant really complain of the performance. i knew what i was getting into when i bought the car and all i have done is a k&n airfilter and one of those tornados, which by the way i don't know what anyone else thinks of them but it improved my gas mileage by almost 5 miles a gallon. anyways i turn off at my exit to head back to my house and i pull up to the light before my house and this guy pulls up next to me with his girlfriend, im assuming, in a black chevelle i think not to sure. well he revs his engine and i debate whether to race him but it really wouldn't make any sense so i just throw him a rev to see if he could back up all the noise he was making. light turns green and his tires start walling and smoking and hes off like a rocket as i slowly make my turn down my block. is it me or does everyone just consider a cougar an easy kill. i don't know my baby needs some serious hardware soon cause im sick of gettin murdered:flushed:. does anyone know where i can get my pre cats gutted?

I feel your pain. If you do a search, you should find a " how to" on gutting your pre-cats. Its not something that any shop would really get into. That Tornado is a pinwheel restricting your intake. Have you done any exhaust mods yet, you can free up a bit of power there too. The only real way to put down some good numbers is to either build a hybrid(3.0 block with 2.5 UIM and LIM), swap for a 3.0 or get some kind of forced induction. I have a pretty extensive list of mods I've done to my car, and still only dynoed at 150fwhp. Its a big improvement over stock, but no where near where I want to be.

dont' screw with muscle cars...that chevelle would have wasted you. Even I've had challengers...even a charger rev at me and I declined. The only "muscle" car i've raced and beaten was an 89-92 Mustang GT, and it was by the skin of my teeth.

FOR SOME REASON OUR CARS SCREAM RACE ME. PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO RACE ME ALL THE TIME. the worst is when your just driving to work and some guy is all like trying to race and pissing you off. he gives you that look like, dude i just beat you. I'M NOT RACING YOU DUMB ACE. oh well it's fun anyway. no one tries to race me in the scion tc :) oh well.

hey ironflag, welcome to heat soak. when all of a sudden your car has like no power and you have no clue why.

i can't tell you how many times i looked at that tornado but never bought it. it's worth 5 mpg's in this time of souring gas prices.

don't mind him. he for some reason thinks he is so much better than everyone else. no offence chris but that's just the vibe you give off.

okay, but there are dozens of things you can do to your car to make it run better, get better mileage, etc. than invest $20 on a piece of tin that doesn't do anything. Your intake is designed to move a specific CFM of air into your engine at a certain velocity, and with a certain amount of turbulance for best performance/efficiency. Putting an obstruction in there is not a good idea, nor will it do anything good for your engine. And that's all it is...sh!t, they're all the same design, just different sizes!

I'll take the ford engineer's design over a product that assumes all engines are exactly the same any day! It's been said by engineers, people who've tried it, and even Terry Haines, who actually played a role in the design of the CDW-27 platform. You guys should lurk over on the CEG a little.

You can call it a bad "vibe" all you want, it's a waste of money... That's not how i meant to come off, but I seriously thought you were joking about the tornado, seriously. I actually kinda wish you were.

i didnt think you would take it personal that i had one. Jesus christ

I'm not taking it personal, just trying to give you some "helpful" info. It's your money, you can spend it however you wish.

I wanted to add...just take a look at how the tornado works - it supposedly takes incoming air and creates a "tornado" effect, which they say is more efficient. Ok, well, IIRC you're supposed to install this thing in the accordian tube before the MAF. Well, if you pull off your intake and look into the maf you'll notice a screen in there. The main purpose of that screen is to "smooth" out turbulance in the air coming into the engine....so any "tornado" effect will be smoothed out by that screen anyway.

Now, you could pull out the screen (it won't make a difference though, i'll get to that in a second)...but your maf is calibrated with that screen taken into consideration. Removing it can cause idle issues, and it's just not a good idea.

Even if you did remove it, it wouldn't make a difference. Pop the hood and take a look at the intake manifold. All the air coming into the engine basically slams into a wall before it goes into the runners and the cylinders. By the time the air makes it through the 90 degree turn in both directions at the opening of the UIM and into your cylinders, any effect that tornado created will be long gone.

If you really want to increase your MPG, you should open up your intake and exhaust. Also pull off your upper and lower intake manifolds and clean all the gunk out of them (i assure you, there is a ton) and also yank the throttle body and clean that out as well.

If you're up for spending some cash, when you have the UIM and TB off the car, get the TB "optimized" (basically opening it up more) and also have the opening of the UIM machined to match the TB/maf, and smooth out those edges at the 90 degree turn(s). A custom chip would be nice as well.

Jaigh, I've only met you a couple of times but I am sorry that's how you feel. I try to offer as much info/advice as I can to help you guys/girls out, and I do my best to be there to help spin a wrench (that goes for ANYONE on this forum). I am sorry it gets interpreted as me trying to be better than everyone else...I have picked up alot of info over the past 5 years on this car and how it works. Forgive me for trying to share. :cover:

apology excepted...your forgiven

forgive me too, i was in a hypoglycemic bad mood. i was nasty to my girlfriend all night too for no reason.

if it is harmless and gives you a little extra gas milage than i see no problem with it.

try this: take a wine bottle, turn it upside down and pour out the wine. it gurgles its way out.

now take another wine bottle, turn it upside down and pour out the wine. this time spin the wine creating a "tornato" the wire will pour out twice as fast.

Apples and oranges man. First of all, there is no wine bottle strapped to your engine. Second, we're moving air, not liquid.

Read my post again. The point i'm trying to make is by the time the air gets to where it needs to be, it does not have any "tornado" effect anymore. That thing in no way effects the combustion process, which determines how efficiently or inneffeciently your engine burns gas. Maybe, MAYBE on a car that does not have all the twists and turns our intake manifold has. I remember the old infomercial, they only demonstrated it on an impala SS. Also don't forget, the conditions they run those tests under are there to maximize any gains and in no way reflect real world conditions. That's the stuff they don't tell you.

work

it's summer time. lets liven this up

i spent $1000 on my car this weekend. new tires, brakes, and rotors. and the best of all. my mechanic is like did you know someone CUT your ABS line. THATS nice to know. I had an accident 1 year ago and always wondered why my ABS never kicked in...now I know. if I had known earlier i would have never had the accident. the car prob would have stopped. and my bumper would still be the same color as the rest of the car ;)

I just spent $650, and I'm gonna spend another ~250 on parts....taking a road trip to pull off my uim/lim, clean em' out and change my plugs/wires. Then I need 2 tires for my 18's, new paint for my front bumper, dent fixing in the rear, and my CF hood clearcoated. Then I can start on all the little stuff i need to do, and maybe get the exhaust mounted.
