Okay So I REALLY want to attempt my HVACs but I don't wanna f them up! I have been reading and it looks like even people with lots of patience have messed them up and I was just wondering how easy it is to do this without messing them up at all, like is there any secret besides time and patience? or maybe a better question would be.. how did you people who messed yours up, mess them up, like what did you do that I can learn from? was it scrubbing too hard? or too strong of R/C fuel or yah, I just wanna know what my best aproach to not messing them up would be (next to not doing them at all, because doing them is not an options, they will be getting done). Oh and Brian I was wondering what you did wrong on yours to mess them up, seen as thats the only part you haven't attempted in your very suceesful LED modding so far!

I decided to practice on a 99 set before I did my 01s, and the major cause of the mess up was that the stuff I tried to use first (nail polish remover) took off the stuff waaay too fast. I mean, literally, a couple brushes with a Q-tip, and it was gone, all the way down to destroying the icon. The RC fuel worked great. You still have to go lightly, but you can definetely tell when you're done.

Just brush a few time with a Q-tip, then hold it up to the light. If it looks like this, you're golden.

Same here, I practiced on a spare set before attempting on my real set. I actually used nail polish remover to remove the green though. I tried the rc fuel and it wasn't getting the green stuff off so I pushed harder and it took way to much off. So I would say really slow with the polish remover. Best tip though, practice on a spare set.

My wife used to be a teacher at a cosmetology school, and everything they used was professional level so it's very possible that the nail polish remover I used was just super potent stuff.

The RC car fuel went fast enough for me...lol

I'm working on de-greening dash guages and don't know if it's different than the dials, but here's what's worked for me:

1. lightly wetsanded surface with 1000 grit paper - just until the grey paint was scuffed
2. lots of q-tips with non-acetone nail polish remover
3. when green begins to vanish, check against a light (to avoid going too far)

also, assuming most of you don't typically use nail polish remover... here's a tip for you. it quickly looses it's lifting power. Even if the q-tip is still damp, if it's been a couple minutes, it will be much weaker than it was right out of the bottle.
