Well...I busted the tranny. I went to martin yesturday, and on my second launch...the tranny mount tore a chunk of the tranny off. I heard a loud bam and the whole car jumped, then as I passed the 1/8 mile mark I looked in my mirror and saw smoke pouring out behind me. I thought at first that I blew a gasket or something, but after inspecting this morning...yep shes dead. :banghead: So hopes of me making it to cougarfest are really up in the air right now. I guess atx's don't like to be dropped into gear. But, that's my stupid mistake and I guess I'm learning from it. Hopefully I can con my credit union into loaning me the extra bills for the fix. But if push comes to shove and I have to replace it myself, Maybe some nice necoer with experience swaping trannys can assist me for a few beers. And maybe a hug.

gee thanks zalec, after what I've gone through, the first thing on my mind was, "gosh, I can't wait to spend hundreds of dollars so I can try that again. That was a good idea, I must have just done it wrong."(keep in mind this is slathered in sarcasm)
Yeah not sure if I will be doing it myself yet. Do you think you could get me a deal fearthisescort? I found an atx for $450 w/ exchange, does that sound like a good deal? I would take this chance to do a manual swap, but being that I am flat broke, i Think I might have to settle for just a newer atx.

How long did it take, and how much did it cost you? If you don't mind telling.

is that for a brand new atx? Cause the one I found was from a junk yard. Only has 54,000 miles on it though.

not trying to push you farther in the corner, but just what exactly were you trying to do by manually shifting an automatic...

did you think that your 3-4 years of driving experience is more valuable than the collective hundreds of years of experience the ford engineers had when designing the shift points on your transmission?

if you wanted to shift your gears manually, get a manual transmission....

working on it
besides last time I was at the track, in drive the best I could do was a 16.9, and manually shifting I hit a 16.7. I didn't nuetral drop at launch then, that was just a stupid last minute idea that went horribly wrong. Trust me I will never do it again.(especially if I can manage to get an MTX out of this.)

16.9, and manually shifting I hit a 16.7.

there was probally another factor in play not that you manual shifted. if anything that should have hurt you. most likely you had less gas, cooler outside, any weight reduction between runs, maybe not a passenger in the car when you ran a 16.9, ect...........i have no idea. its wasnt manually shifting that got you a better time though i do know that. but whatever you were smoking that made you do that pass it this way :smoke-g: never rev your car up and slam it in drive. and by reading what happen its not like you kicked it up to 2k, more like you were at the at or close to the redline when your threw into drive, and i correct? as for a mtx swap your looking at about 3 g's to do it. but if you need a hand my pm box is open, i dont work monday or wednesday.

Hell I am not sure how much it cost I got the trans out of a wrecked contour for a good deal but mine is a MTX. It didn't take too long, with the right tools it could easily be done in a weekend.
