This was nuts. I may never lower another car again. My next car... will be a truck... and I'm getting it raised.
My front bumper dragged on the deck of the truck and even warped under the weight of the car (no cracks, thank goodness) and the rear body kit and exhaust cleared the ground with less than a millimeter (no exageration) of clearance. But no damage that I could see... just a couple more minutes off my lifespan.
Anyway... here's the saddest picture I've ever taken. heh.

seeing your car on a flatbed is disturbing... I remember the first time I saw that with my car... took a million pics of it turning the corner and leaving too.. what happened?

oh reading your post in the impromtu meet thread... I bet its your fuel pump, have you gotten that replaced before?

That's how it is for me, when my car needs to go up on a lift, it's always too close for comfort.
I hope you get everything fixed.

heh heh... yeah, seeing my car on a flatbed was disturbing for me too. Its at the dealership now... I needed to take it to the dealership anyway to get the fuel pump replaced free under the special extended warranty. It has been bucking and hesitating under hard acceleration. I just didn't plan on taking it on a tow truck. Anyway, it got towed because it wouldn't start... not even turn over. Just a single "click."
well... they are supposed to call me tomorrow morning with the cost and what's wrong. Hope its not too bad. Like the guy said to me, "hopefully it won't start because of the fuel pump... then you'll get two problems fixed for free. "

this might sound silly but how old is the battery?
Phantom
06-16-2005, 11:41 PM
Not Silly... but the answer is 4 months old.
I thought of the battery first anyway... I pulled the connectors and cleaned them down really good. That didn't change it... I even pulled the Probe into the Garage and hooked up the jumper cables and still didn't get any crank...
oh well... I'll know for sure tomorrow.

I am sorry that your cougar is in the hospital. I hope it gets better very soon. At least it knows it is loved. Of course, if you want the problem looked at right away and fixed, just cry. It does wonders! :)
It's alright, I scrape everything and I'm not even as extreme as some people, then again, I take way too many hills way too fast.

starter? bad ground?
Nah, in the 2000+ cougars Ford had a security breach into the factory (Some guy named Max left the door open) paving the way for "gremlins", who delight in causing mischief with cars, to begin living in the brand new cars Ford was putting out. These creatures are totally different from the little elves who only try and help people, by making shoes, cookies, etc. These typically live in trees. Gremlins like to live in engine bays, or sometimes near the brakes, where it is warm, and smells bad the majority of the time. They are rather unpleasant little bastards.

That sucks dude. When mine got towed (fuel died on I55 south of Springfield) it barely made it on the flat bed, and I was still running stock wheels and springs.

heheh, that's so true, Chris.
Well, got the call. Anyone with their Money on the Starter wins. Kinda what I figured too...
Getting the fuel pump replaced for free... but they have to order it... so there's no chance of getting the car today.

Wow... how did I miss this thread?
I'm glad you found out what's wrong! At least it won't be too expensive..

You would of thought they kept some fuel pumps in stock. Is the starter very expensive?
EDIT: BTW while its in there, did you get your alignment done yet? Since you worked on all your struts, you need an all wheel alignment, not just front. Its better for your car and tires in the long term. :)

I can't remember the exact price, but I think the part was $140ish... and labor was $200+ for the starter. And $97 for diagnostic BS.
But yep, I remembered the alignment... figured the same thing... while its in... might as well have the dealership do it... saves me the hassle of having to take more time off work to go wait on a cheaper place to do it.

WOW, your dealership is a bit on the chincy side. Here they don't charge diagnostics UNLESS you don't get the work done. Oh well, it is Chicago where they charge you just to drive little sections of road.

hehe... yeah, that's true... actually, this place was cheaper than the Ford dealer... the Ford dealer charged $150 for diagnostic... just to look at it... on top of repair... some normal shops will only charge diagnostic if you don't get the work done... but not the dealers.
Got the car back last night. :) And am taking it back tonight. :( The steering feels loose... it actually pops and has some slack when first turning left from a right turn.
chincy side?
as in chinese?
i think you mean jewish ;)

I'm not exactly sure if I spelled chincy right, but I've heard it as meaning cheap. I am not sure why I would mean jewish?

I think its spelled chintzy . . . and it definitely means cheap . . . and dammit! I'm tired of being an old person stuck in a 23 year old's body. Thats the second time in the last few days I've seen someone near my age told they were "probably too young to remember" when I knew EXACTLY what the person was talking about.
Oh, and I'm Ryan and real soon, like Sunday if I can pull this off, I'ma be buyin me a shiny new Cougar . . . I just had hesitated to introduce myself until I actually had my baby, but this seemed as good an opportunity as any.
I've got 10,000 more miles under warranty, I assume the car falls apart at 60,001 miles and on, eh?
If mine ever cost me to repair more than something I could do myself I'd dump it.

heh... I have the 60,000 mile warranty... my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear synchros in my transmission started grinding at 62,000 miles. No kidding.
