Snowboarder

Hey so I'm in the process of making my cars ugly green into red and I'm doing the 4 button defrost button control thingy and got the bottom one all soldered up easy and working, but I figured the top indicator LED that turns on when you push the button was the for where the resistor needs to go! but I tried doing that and it never worked :S so I'm confizzled and don't know if the possitive side is on the otherside or not! I guess what I'm asking is which side do I put the resistor.. I've heard that it doesn't matter but I tried both and neither seem to work :S am I just screwing it up? I dunno haha! as well as with all my screwing around I managed to disconnect the "old" leads from the 2 pinchy things and I dunno what to do about that I've been just trying to re squish the new led and resistor in there, but I don't know if the old ones were put in there special or something that I'm not doing...!
anyways after like an hour of screwing around and it not working I decided to ask for help...! pictures of how you fit the LED and resitor into the top indicator light spot would be sweet too if anyone has them?
Thanks a bunch for ANY help!
