Remove ATX Shift Plate and Replace with Boot?

Has anyone completely removed the shift plate, and covered the entire area with a shift boot? I'm not sure if it's possible, but it would definitely change the inside of our ATXs :-)

Any ideas?

I don't see why you couldn't do that. The center console is exactly the same for ATX & MTX, only diff is ATX you get the plate, MTX you get the shift boot. You should be able to order the shift boot from Ford with the attachment ring or whatever holds it in place on the console. Should be a quick and easy change.
