Hi !
http://bigmek.de/nuerburg2005/en_nr_title.jpg
This part of our EURO-NECO community is not visited that much, but I want to share at least the latest activities. We just had our latest EURO-NECO Meetings, german meeting to be precise. We were just 8 Cougars (plus 1 that came pretty late) but we met at the Nuerburgring, one of the worlds most famous race tracks. According to many race drivers THE ONE AND ONLY racetrack. 20.8km (13 miles) long, 73 curves, 1000m (0.625miles) height difference on the whole track. The so called GREEN HELL.
After the nice day all around the new Grand Prix track with a visit to the Museum (I definitely can't fit into a 2001 Formula 1 chassis, see the pictures), the pit, Media Center we gathered at the historic (since 1927) "NORDSCHLEIFE", the old race track, which is still used for long tournaments like the 24hour Race at Nuerburgring and so on. In the meantime everyone can get on the long, fantastic, but also dangerous track. That Saturday, June 11th, it opened at 6pm, since there was a race during the day. Many Motorbikes, cars, sports cars like Porsche (including the Carrera GT), Kathan, Morgan, BMW M's, Lotus were on the track. Of course our Cougars have no real chance against such a sports car. But we did pretty well. For most of us it was the first time on the track and we followed the crowd. One ugly little mini pick up Diesel car with guys from the Netherlands smoked us in the first curves. After the first round we found out why, his car was not tuned or so, no, the driver already drove more than 200 times on the track. So he knows every meter, every corner. For 15 Euro (18 USD) it is a real experience. We drove a second time. We saw several crashes. Mostly Motorbikes that were too fast in the tough curves. Some cars were spinning around. But we all finished the track without problems. Of course the tires were hot and the brakes were smelly. But it was worth it.
