Alright so I'm not gonna run off and do this right away haha, but one day I plan on having one of the fastest Cougars (I'm young, I have LOTS of time to do this..like 10+ years haha) ANywho if I were to have the money right now what would the optimum set-up be for HP? so far I was thinking real small and real undetailed as engines are not really my fortay on whats the best although I'm learning! SO I was thinking a tuned PnP 3.0l with SVT upgrades all around (jaguar engine.. if this is possible) throwing in the biggest baddest turbo that'll work and fit in there with a nice intercooler coming out the front of the millenium kit I want and a nice cold air intake in there if this is all possible... with some 3inch TRUE dual flowmasters and 2 gutted cats and or straight pipes depending on if we still have air testing here by that time! along with of course upgraded 3 stage tranny and air bag suspension and a 12.2inch Big Brake kit and of course I'll add some HP juice in there, maybe even dual bottles if I get real serious about my HP wants and needs!
Now liek I said I'm probably talking out my ass and not sure if all this stuff can be done together or any of that.. But yah if anyone cares to correct me and or get more specific on what I can do to get the absolute most HP out of a 3L engine, please endulge as today is one of my first days in this thread and I don't know jack about what would need to be tuned to get this thing turned into almost a race car engine! But yah please endulge on what the absolute best set-up like that would be if you could without of course doing too much body work and stuff to accomidate a bunch of stuff in there! haha as well as post how much HP you figure these set-ups (including my own set-up I suggested) would round up!

Cant really go into much detail because Im still learning about the 3.0 also, but Id check out the CEG forums(www.contour.org). Theres a bunch of guys with very sick, very powerful 3.0's, turbo'd, supercharged, etc. I would do some research over there, even check out their cardomain pages with their mod lists.

+1mm bored 3L with 8:1 billet pistons running a 72 trim hybrid with a 150 shot to spool it up faster.
Don't forget the Ti rods...
Mmmm... Titanium rods.... 'bout $1,000 each?
What happens when he realizes the platform can only handle around 300fwhp?
Time for an RWD conversion...

do what im going to do in about 2 years:
leave the cougar @ ~ 400 whp, cant go higher, unless you like spinning everywhere
buy a MKVI Toyota Supra TT, convert to single garret GT42 (76mm) and make 700 rwhp, and even more if you decide not to keep the stock bottom end
If you wanna make insane 3.0 power, do that.

haha don't hate don't hate, appreciate lol! haha I guess you learn something everyday about how much power this bad boy can handle eh! but for real if it can only handle like 350-400 fwhp does that mean that james claimed 650hp cougar is rwd? just from long time memory I thought I remeber him not going through with it, however I could be wrong and could just be thinking about the climate control...! but yah how possible the rwd conversion, it must be mucho hardo seen as I don't know of anyone whos done it yet... but hey if I'm investing tonz of money into my cougar if it's possible for a SANE amount of money it may be something to think about, because my life long goal is to have the nicest most talked about cougar alive... (okay now It's just wishful thinking, but still.....) haha even if I don't do all this crap or any of it, I still wanna learn it anyways and see what my options are! anyways keep the feedback coming!

A RWD setup would mean you have to cut into the car for a transmission tunnel. Fab up a new sub frame and a new steering rack. The RWD conversions I've seen all have carburated engines in them.

anyone ever pondered the idea of using an ls2 from the c6 corvette and putting the transmission in the rear like they do? this would make it easier to fit, atleast in my eyes it does.
I wouldn't go with the LS2 yes- Still too expensive, and you can get 600+hp LS1 crate motors for fairly cheap.
If you've got a "thing" for the stock powertrain, get a donor car, drop the subframe of it, and cut out the rear bay of your car to fab/weld/install the subframe at the back. Then you can be like that Tiburon with dual engines. Turbo each one, voila- 800hp Cougar that looks (almost) stock!

It also produced the most impressive burnout ever put rubber on tarmac. Michael McIntyre's twin-engine Hyundai put 627 hp to the ground in our dyno competition. It did the same thing here--in a completely different way. McIntyre's car uses two independently controlled automatic transmissions, giving him the ability to operate them in drive and reverse at the same time--which is exactly what he did. The resulting automotive tug of war was enough to send any chassis engineer into convulsions.
With the front tranny in reverse and the rear in drive, McIntyre laid into the go pedal and didn't lift until he'd made enough tire smoke to put California's Air Resources Board on high alert. The car began to slowly rotate on its axis as all four drive wheels fought each other for dynamic control. In about 10 seconds, the entire car was engulfed. When it was over, the ground was covered with smoldering piles of rubber and the most confused burnout marks ever made. He won. No one else even came close.

The price would be insane unless you did all the fabrication yourself ... a shop who is qualified to make such changes would probably charge in the $40K-$50K range for the work ALONE. However, with only stock engines and LSD equiped trannies, 340 hp - Drive Line Loss of 18% = 278 AWD HP ... nothing to look down your nose at. I'm with Dan though ... turbo 3L's on opposing ends with the boost turned up = 700-800 AWD HP. If you do none of the work yourself, expect at least $70K + car ;)

haha thats one hefty price tag... but would be one mean ass car for sure! I'll take 3 and I want one in orange.... (I just figured anyone who spent that much money on a cougar painted it orange... haha)
and one in yellow for the extra HP it gives you! haha

I love that Tiburon. It's the only one I like.
